Connect Four
Dawson Powell April 19th, 2014
Download from Google Drive - Game with Questions - Game Board Only Widescreen - Game Board Only Fullscreen -

A fun, simple game made easy to play and make in PowerPoint.
* July 7th, 2016: Pictures can now be easily added to the game.  Also a fullscreen (4:3) version has been added.
* June 27th: Added a board only version.*
* September 20th: Release 2 makes the game easier to add questions and answers and improves compatibility with all versions of PowerPoint.
*November 2014 Release 3* - Textboxes now can expand to allow longer answers.
Gameplay Features
Accident Forgiveness
If you accidentally click the wrong checker, click it again to reset it and then click the right one.
Two Ways to Play
  • Reset the board after every point.
  • Keep a running tally of how many points the teams have till the end.
Editing Features
Ease of Use
Easily insert images from the web or your computer using the placeholders.
Check the notes in the slides for instructions.
High Portability
No special fonts required. Compatible with all versions of PowerPoint.
*However, PowerPoint 2010 or PowerPoint Viewer 2010 are highly recommended for playing. PowerPoint 2007 is perfectly fine for editing, but works very slowly for playing.*

Have fun!

Some old Connect Four commercials that may help explain the game to your students.

Great job! It took me awhile to understand it (yea, I'm a bit slow).  Here's an explanation so others won't waste as much time as I did thinking there was something wrong with the ppt:

Slide 2 is where the kids pick a letter that will link to a question. Click on the check or the x on the question slide afterwards to take you back to slide 2 where the letter will be blocked with a chip.

If they are wrong, the other team goes and picks a letter.

If they are right, click the black arrow on slide 2, which will take you to slide 4 where the student can select which row to put a chip in.  Click the appropriate color and the chip will fall into place.  If you click on the wrong chip, click that chip again and it will move back up and out of the board.

Wonderful ppt, OP!  Well made!

Right! I forgot to mention that in the description, but it is in the notes of the PPT. In order to make the game compatible with PowerPoint 2010, I couldn't hyperlink directly from the question to the Game Board. Thanks for the explanation ohhero!

I made a question sheet for this Connect Four game. It worked really well with my first graders in high school. Some questions were really simple while others were sort of difficult. The students had fun. There are a total of 174 questions, which should be more than enough to last the entire class period.

Instructions:
(1) Cut the questions up into little strips and put them in a hat, envelope, or cup.
(2)Have students randomly draw from whatever you use and have a team member answer the question.
(3) If they get the question right, they can insert a chip into one of the columns.
(4) Objective is to connect four, of course.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, this looks great!
Also thanks toddsqui, I like your idea of the questions in a basket! Easier to move around the class and not be stuck at the computer moving pages so much. If you have a touch screen you can even send a student up to pick the slot as well!

this game was awesome. I made a list of questions and printed numbers.
Divided them into 2 teams. They chose a number from an envelope and I read them the question. If they got it correct they could play a token in the score board. If they got it wrong the other team had a chance to steal the question.

I only used the board for scoring. It went down great in my first grade high school class!

Thanks~
