Cupid shuffle dance lesson
« on: April 08, 2011, 05:50:19 AM »
I showed my students the original video first. then I printed out the dance instructions and asked them to translate. I asked one group at a time to stand up and act out the instructions until we went over them all as a class. After this I showed them the instructional dance video and asked the class to stand up and follow..Then we did it with the video. WIth extra time I had a dance competition. In groups the students had a few minutes to put their own twist on the dance..and the group with the most creative dance at the end won candy. here are the videos and instructions:

Step 4 times to the right.

Step 4 times to the left.

'Kick' your right leg, then your left leg. Repeat this twice for each leg. '

Walk it by yourself. Just walk in place, but turn to the right .

Repeat dance

Did it go well?  I tried to do something very similar during my winter camp, and it FLOPPED.  The students were very excited for our 'dance' lesson, but they just didn't like the dance.  I think they thought we were just going to have a club day!

I'm teaching it to 1st and 2nd graders. Not sure if all of them even know their left and right so I made a PPT for the Chorus of the song (the dancing part basically).

I tried this as a warmup activity with mixed results. I found that the girls enjoyed it more than the boys.

This seems like an awesome idea but did they get it? When I was trying to sing with kids they didnt really get it so dancing I think might be a disaster.

did this with my kindies last semester and they loved it.

I made a ppt to teach them directions then we did some drills and command activities.

I used just the chorus and went through the dance part by part with them

By the end they were trying to see how far to the left or right they could get before we changed directions haha
