Song Ideas?
« on: June 19, 2014, 10:48:39 AM »
My CT wants our students to learn a song for fun during camp, but I'm not exactly sure what song to use.

What do you think would be good for 3-6 graders? Something with simple lyrics and hopefully a fairly recent/popular song (other than stuff from Frozen, thank you).

Anything by the Beatles is easy to learn.

Another option is the "Cup Song" because it's fun to learn the cup actions.
Tons of tutorials on youtube.
I'd suggest learning it your self then get your students to shadow it.

I was JUST listening to that song, thinking about using it. My 6th graders learned the cup game in PE recently. I helped the PE teacher learn the actions, so I definitely know how to do it.  :azn:

The pepper tuna (고추참치) song, very roughly translated.. it was a bit cult a few months ago with the boys, maybe not cool anymore.

Creep - Radiohead.

It has the added bonus of being sung at every noraebang outing so all the teachers know the lyrics already.

!funny!

while I imagine this being hilarious to watch a bunch of elementary kids try to squeal, I also can see the horror of the Korean Co-Teachers faces when they hear it.

Save creep for norebangs. It does better in a room with echoing microphones.

My 6th graders love Anna Kendrick's When I'm Gone (Cups) song. I also taught them the how to do the cups game and it went over smashingly. I bought the red cups at Costco.

EDIT: We decided to change the lyrics from "two bottles of whiskey" to "two bottles of water."

My students have learned "I have a dream" by Connie Talbot... they all love it because she is so young and yet so talented, lol. They also learned "The Show" by Lenka (which has a doodle song adaptation on youtube so they can see pictures other students drew of each line). Also tons of Beatles songs... teachers love these because they know the parents will recognize them~

Oldie but a goodie: The Archies "Sugar Sugar"

The students pick up the chorus pretty quickly... the verses are a little bit harder.

Here's the vid for the song and a PPT I made to help teach the lyrics.
