2014 Grade 4 Daekyo 1 - 7. Where Are You?
« on: June 25, 2014, 04:08:44 PM »
Surprised there's nothing for this yet.

Included a standard intro PPT with some basic practice at the end. Probably going to play bingo or something for the first period.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR5qPNPGCmY

Here's a good song as well. The beavers seem to most frequently strike the balance between being good songs and being useful for class.

Daekyo Grade 4 Lesson 7 "Where Are You?"
« Reply #1 on: June 25, 2014, 05:09:55 PM »
Materials for this lesson...
Vocab sheet and intro ppt teaching rooms of the house and present progressive verbs.

This lesson is a bit lacking on its own. Good idea! Teach present progressive verbs without teaching "What are you doing?" lol So I added it.

2nd period review covering the same as period 1.

Pirate game...please let me know if it doesn't work. It should be fine, but I did it on my mac, so you never know.

Busy beavers house song

blank bingo sheet (I made)
a tweaked (I did not make) review ppt for period 3
totoro board game (I made)
A tweaked period 4 review ppt
a verb practice worksheet

I tweaked the pirate game to make it a little easier for the students to follow, and added some more instructions. Hope this helps.

word search, if like me you have no more lessons to teach and movies are not an option and you still need to teach the kiddies.

Here's a Doraemon PPT for the 1st period. I used some of Kyle Ludeke's animation he used in his Doraemon Bomb Game, so thanks to him!

PPT includes Korean translations.

Enjoy!

Thanks.

Sorry, not the ones I need. I'm going to try and attach a picture of what I need. In the teacher's Guide on page 50-54 are example lesson plans. It's these lesson plans that I can't find in digital form. My co-teacher thinks they are only on the website but she can't access them because she's not a regular teacher and unable to make an account.

I can't seem to attach an image in this message so will attach pic as an attachment.

What are you doing?

I made this PowerPoint to introduce the different places in the house and the accompanying words.  I made it into a story about a dog named Ollie and his best friend Sophie the cat.  You should click to trigger the animations on each slide as you talk.  My students repeated the key words altogether as I said them in the story.  The students seemed to like it and were very involved in the story.

Slide 2- Introduction to Ollie and Sophie.  Ollie wanted to visit Sophie's house.

Slide 3- He walked over to her house. (stomp your feet)  He knocked on the door.  (I made a knock on the desk) No one answered, so he went inside.  He could not see Sophie, so he said, "Where are you?"

Slide 4- Ollie went to the bedroom.  (good to ask what the students see in the room like the bed, desk, closet, etc.)  Sophie wasn't in there, so Ollie said, "Where are you?"

Slide 5- (same as the above except in living room)

Slide 6- (same as the above except in bathroom)

Slide 7- Ollie became very sad because he could not find Sophie.  He shouted, "WHERE ARE YOU?"  He then heard a "meow" from the kitchen.

Slide 8- Sophie was in the kitchen cooking.

Slide 9- Ollie and Sophie ate lunch together and played.  The end.

Slides 10-14- words to know

Slides 15-end- quiz/ practice- Ollie always asks, "Where are you?" which helped the lower level students feel confident to answer.

Hope this helps!

Melanie,

I've been through the CD files and have not found those on there. I think they are on the website. Perhaps your CT can ask another Korean teacher to access it. I wish I could be more help but since I am the one that makes all the lessons for 3rd and 4th (Daekyo) and I don't use those plans, my CTs won't have them either.

Melanie,

Here are some two games, a vocabulary ppt, and a song for this lesson.

Sparkle game: All students stand up, and then each student reads one word of a sentence. The student AFTER the last word of the sentence says "sparkle" and sits down. Play until one student is left. I nabbed this idea from a forum and my students LOVE yelling "sparkle" at whoever is out. Works well for a reading lesson and requires zero prep.

Clue game: I haven't used this yet, but my plan is to divide the class into 7 groups of 4. I'll remove three cards from the deck (a person, room, and action card, just like in the actual game of Clue), and disperse the rest of the cards to the teams. On their turn, each group guesses a person, a room, and an action. If another group has that card, they must put it on the whiteboard for everyone to see. This game requires printing and laminating two A4 sheets of cards.

I also played a game called "Where's the Monster," where each pair of students received a printed house in a plastic sleeve, and a marker. They drew a triangle for a monster, and a circle for a boy, in any two rooms in the house. Then, they went up against another team and asked, as the monster "Where are you?" The other team's "boy" answered with the room he was in. If the monster and boy were in the same room, the team with that monster got a point. If they were in different rooms, the team with the boy got a point. Then, the other team's monster had a turn. Unfortunately, I lost my ppt for the house print-out (really simple--just a house), but here is the word bank that I put onscreen during the game.

Here's a brilliant Blackout game that I got from a different thread. Don't know who the creator is but it's sooo good.. thank you!

I'll play at the end of the chapter for fun. The students watch intently in groups then write the room or sentence on their whiteboard correctly for a point.

For the first period I'll give each student a half sheet of slide one. Students will draw a circle in ten of the squares. After everyone is ready I'll prompt them to ask me together, "Where are you?" to which I'll respond "I'm in the ____. I'm ____." They'll then draw an X in that corresponding square. It continues and I'll prompt them again to ask me where I am to which I'll answer a different room/activity combo. First student to have all ten of their circles with an X over them wins.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Kimchi game attached similar concept to the previously posted sparkle game. Kids love it.
