« on: April 08, 2011, 03:55:05 PM »
This is a powerpoint I made about counting to 100. There is a "How old are you?" game at the end and a writing activity.

Numbers Lesson Plan
« Reply #1 on: April 15, 2011, 01:57:11 PM »
I've put this in lower level.  But I'm actually doing it in my high school.  Some of my students don't know their numbers in English.  Hope it's helpful.

Counting PowerPoint and worksheet
Hi - here's a simple PowerPoint that reviews numbers one to ten and asks the essential question How Much? Students count and answer. The final two slides are a worksheet for low level students. Have them count how many ducks are in the picture, how many horses, etc, and fill in the blanks with the English word. Also helps reinforce simple animal names with low-level learners. Just did this with some third and fourth graders and they seemed to enjoy it. Thanks.

This is a really great counting song from Sesame street back in the day.  If you're using other counting songs do this one last because young kids will just want to watch this song over and over again once they hear it.  There's a lot of good vocab in the video as well as the numbers.

I'm thinking of writing math problems (addition and subtraction) on the board and giving each team a set of playing number cards.  Then, I will have them use their playing cards to show their answers to the math problems.

Age Guessing game
« Reply #14 on: October 17, 2011, 08:32:12 PM »
This was a nice warm-up game for me to teach age. It's a typical guessing game and the people in the pictures are their real ages. In the end, I ask them about their age and the ages of people that they know.

Transportation and Counting
« Reply #15 on: May 17, 2012, 08:30:44 AM »
Basic transportation and counting.  I usually also play The Wheels on the bus go round and round for them also.

I use this for low level High School. I have kids who can't count above 5, and they can't tell me what something is called. So we do this power point and then get them to put sentences together, and I talk a little about the age of driving in the U.S. Which always seems to interest them.

It's fun to start with rap in the class.  Listen and enjoy one of them I've made.
Remember to put the files in the same folder.

PPT 4th grade elementary guess the birthday of famous english people
« Reply #17 on: June 19, 2012, 12:11:44 PM »
Small introductary PPT where students should guess the birthdays of famous (I think) British people, actors and historical figures.  Mr Bean/Churchill/Isaac Newton etc etc.  Quite brief but it actually worked ok.

Game:

For numbers, I spread out a deck of uno cards, or phase 10 cards, or any cards with numbers onto the desks in groups. (regular cards work too but the numbers are harder to read) I call out a number and the students have to find the card.

For 4-6, call out high numbers, like 37, and they find two cards.
For even higher levels, call out big numbers like 1203

For another round, ask them to add numbers. For example, I call 12 and they find two sixes, or something similar.

Thanks for all the awesome ideas! I have a mixed level afterschool class and made up this worksheet so they can practice counting to 12.

Put students in groups of 2 or 3, then gave them 2 dice. Each student gets a zombie sheet. One student rolls, then crosses off that number on their own paper (kills that zombie!). After killing, the student who rolled starts to countdown from that number. For example, if the student rolled an 8, they say "8", then the next student says 7, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and whoever says "1" gets a point.

Feel free to edit-- take out the points to make it simpler, or add more zombies to make it harder. I also played that if students already killed that zombie, it doesn't matter if they roll the same number again. They just move straight to the countdown.

P.S. The font I used is a creepy looking Hangul font in Word 2007, but you can replace it with any scary, bloody font you have (or just Comic Sans for easy reading)
