Kpop Slam (2014 Version)
« on: July 11, 2014, 01:53:31 PM »
There has been an absence of Kpop Slams this year (until yesterday's Old School one!!), so I made one that consists of only songs released in 2014.

Catagories are: Boys, Girls, Solo/Duo, Boys (Harder), Girls (Harder), and Translated.

You can download a zip of all the files (including videos and answer sheet) below.  You should be able to unzip it and have everything work out.  Should being the keyword.  I'm new at this so hopefully everything works fine for you.

I also attached the answer sheet so you can see which songs are included.

Some notes/warnings:

- The program I used to trim the videos left most of the videos with 1-3 seconds without audio in the beginning of the video.  (The video plays, but the audio doesn't).  So let it play a bit before you think it's not working!!!

- The girl groups in Kpop have really upped the "sexiness" factor this year, so some of the girl videos can get a bit steamy.  All the students have probably seen them before, but you might want to look at the videos before you show them.

- The video clips are rather long.  My students like to sing along and really get into the song, so I tried to cut the videos in a way where the chorus is included.  You can always click on the video to pause it and move on.

- It's hard.  There wasn't a lot of English in Kpop songs this year.  I also put some of my favorite groups/songs (which aren't super well known with the younger students) as the hardest question of some of the catagories of the second round.  Specifically the 100 point songs of the last three catagories.

This is really well done! I want to use it but I might have to edit out Jiyeon's song, as the dance is a little too provocative for my 6th graders.

Thanks, although all props go to Wintermute for his template.  Yeah the Jiyeon song is definitely all crouch.  I probably could have cut that video in a better place.

Great K-pop game, my students and I definitely appreciated the hard work!

There were a few minor issues that would be nice to fix for next time. The first being use a different program to rip/edit the videos! I had many angry girls when the music for Beast's 'Good Luck' didn't match up with the dancing.

Second, I'd trim down the videos a little more (other than Girl's day 'Something'.) I guess it's nice to let them play a little longer if I need to fill up the time, but none of the classes I played this game with got anywhere close to finishing it.

Third, some of the computers in my school are pretty crappy, so sometimes the video would tear and delay. I added a link on each name so I could quickly open the video in media player if the embedded video wasn't working properly.

Fourth, the choice for +/- 50 points frame always reset the board for me (might just be my version of power point.) Moving the slides to just after their corresponding question seemed to fix this problem.

I attached the ppt with the minor fixes I made in case anyone else was having the same problems I was. Again, thanks for putting in the time to make this great Kpop slam update!  I (and mostly my students) hope you post another one before too long! =D

Thanks for commenting Metsubo! I am working on another Kpop Slam since finals are coming up and I will definitely try trimming down a lot of the videos on this one. I will also try to use a different editing program this time around.

I actually don't play with the +/-, so I didn't notice that mistake. I'll double check it for the next version.
