Kpop Slam 2014 (with videos)
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:59:19 PM »
This is a K-pop Slam game with short videos embedded into the PPT. The songs are the most recent/popular songs up to this point (July) in 2014.

I teach at an all girls middle school so my girls LOVE anything with K-pop. Since they can't get enough of the boy groups there are 2 boy categories in this game.

Categories include:
Girl Groups
Solo & Duet
Boy Groups
More Boys
Random (3 songs from 2013 and 2 songs from 2012)

For each song I used the chorus of the song and translated it to English. If the chorus was originally in English I used parentheses to show that.

(English lyrics in parentheses)= Originally sung in English. They don't need to translate.
English lyrics without parentheses= originally sung in Korean, they will need to translate this back to Korean to try to guess the song.
______ underlines = the song title

Songs worth lower points have more original English in them, so the students won't have to translate as much.

Songs worth 40-50 points have no English in the chorus, so the students must translate more.

My school is moderate to high level so the girls never really have any problems with the difficulty.

The file is large because I also included a folder with the full length videos. My students will often want to watch music videos before or after class and this saves me if the internet is down. (and I don't have to sit through advertisements on youtube before each video ^-^ )

Here is another game I made from kpop songs of 2013. (though one song, BAP -"stop it") is from 2012. So make sure to mention there is ONE song from 2012 before you start to avoid an angry mob of teenage girls...

Same format as my 2014 game. Categories include:
Girl Groups
Solo
Boy Groups
Pot Luck (Random)
Billboard Top 10 (this category has the top ten songs from Oct. 2013)

I tried testing out the ppt but none of vids worked. What power point version did you use. Also an easier way to share is to embed the files.

kenbladex Try putting the folder with all the material on the desktop, it shortens the length of the pathway so makes it easier for the computer to find the videos. The ppt may still have some hickups.

Hey thanks for the great effort.

For next time could you please put it all into one folder in your drive so it's easy to download? It just took me 15mins to go thru downloading each individual file.

Thanks!!

Nice work, but there are a few little issues that are inconvenient for us teachers.

People already commented on putting everything in one folder so it's easier to download.

It'd be nice to have the videos edited down a little, so we don't get a whopping 541MB to download. This is a nice treat for my students when we're ahead in our lessons, but I travel from classroom to classroom so I put everything on a little thumb drive. 541 megs adds up quickly!

In the actual game, I'd suggest making the translated parts and the English parts a little easier to distinguish. Probably just highlighting them and putting a little note in the opening of the power point about it would be sufficient.

My students and I appreciate the work, we look forward to your next game!

I found a step by step way to download it with a few clicks.

Step 1: Share it to your own google drive.
This will make a read-only copy.
Step 2: Select all (tick the box next to TITLE while viewing it in list view)
Step 3: Click the "More" dropdown button and select download.

It will take a while to zip it all for you, but at least you can leave it to run while you do other stuff.

Being on a MAC, i find it a bit difficult to incorporate the music tracks into the ppt's themselves, might look up some tutorials on google or something.
