So, I've been informed to only teach songs and stories for my 1st and 2nd graders from now on. I need to turn in the rest of the after-school lesson plans for 2014 in two weeks. I can find good songs easily enough, but I'm floundering when it comes to finding stories. My co-teacher said stories like Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid. Has anyone found easily worded stories for those kinds of fairy tales? I could really use some suggestions...

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Folk tales and fables can also be really easy for kids to understand. I've had success with stories like the Tortoise and the Hare or anything by Aesop (well, almost anything). I found these videos awhile back. They have subtitles and the voice is slow enough for kids to understand.

Generally, my young kids don't pay attention when I'm flipping pages in a book, but they'll sit and watch a video with animation, so these have helped a bit.

Potato Pals levels 1 and 2. comes with a cd with fun songs...simple words. level one is about 'I' and level two is about 'we'.  Best investment I made education wise.  Kids love the actions i do with the songs. and lots of items in each picture to introduce children to. and you can get a workbook and activity book. use the activity book which is just pictures and workbook is more writing and matching.  and the characters are cute.

Check out starfall.com - they've got phonics materials and enough books to get your 1st and 2nd grade going. Then check out abcya.com for sight work bingo, so they don't get too antsy just reading.

Enjoy!
