Here are some materials that I used for my English Culture Camp to help the kids learn and practice country names and ask/answer "Where are you from?"
I have large flags that I put around the room and asked students to guess what countries they belong to. Then I put the flags on the board. I asked them "Where are you from?" Then they throw a sticky ball at the board. They'll answer I'm from (Country's flag closest to the sticky ball). My 3rd grade LOVED this!
Then I gave them all a small flag, sat them in a circle and they all had ask the person to their right "Where are you from?" and answer according to what flag they had. After that, we did a memory game where everyone had to say where they were from and where everyone before them was from, ie, "He's from India. She's from America. I'm from Korea".
Finally, I had them use Role Play cards to get them talking a little more - they have to ask 1. What's your name? 2. Where are you from? and 3. How old are you?
Feel free to add questions if your students can do it. Here are some suggestions: "What language do you speak?" or "Where's your hometown?" or "What do you do?" "What are your hobbies?" etc.
Enjoy^^
