After School Class: Food Lesson
« on: April 11, 2011, 12:45:05 PM »
Hey guys!  Here's a Food Lesson I did early last year.  It's for a two-period after school class.  Pretty basic stuff: different kinds of food, parts of a meal, a little bit of etiquette.  I'm pretty sure I used someone else's powerpoint for the second half of the class, but i forgot where I got it from, so apologies in advance for the plagerism  :P

Oh and I started off the class by showing a clip from Ratatouille, where Remy is running around in the kitchen.  There's a scattergories game that's included too, where the students have to choose one food item that fits into each part of the meal (i.e. appetizer, main course etc.) and they must all start with the same letter.  There's a template for a mock menu if you want to include a "Make Your Own Menu" part in your class, but I didn't use it for mine because I ran out of time.

Enjoy!  :D

looks like a good lesson. I am doing 3 after school lessons on food/cooking so I will use this one. My first lesson is an introduction to food, the second lesson will be this one and the third lesson is going to be cooking. Thanks for the lesson!

Here's a series of 8 lessons I made for elementary school grade 5/6 about Korean food. They learn English words for Korean foods/ ingredients e.t.c. and then write a recipe book at the end of it. I think it would work well for middle school students, especially low level ones.

To play the countdown game, click on the picture in the PPT. It's based on the UK channel four game countdown and the kids seem to really enjoy it. I often use it as a warm up in normal classes too.
