Frozen Study Book
« on: September 03, 2014, 04:01:22 PM »
I've been asked to help a 6th grade student study for a contest using this book (see attached pictures).  They keep saying they want to "memorize" this book, but the teacher insists that they know nothing about the contest itself.  Each part of the book has a list of key phrases, and then some exercises that use those phrases.  The instructions for the exercises are all in Korean.  So, I'm kinda at a loss in how to help her.  In memorization, you need a prompt and a response.  What's the prompt?  Are they supposed to be able to use and understand these phrases (there's over a 100 of these, mind you) in a sentence correctly?  Do they just need to be able to read the phrase with good pronunciation?  Insert the phrase in the right portion of the dialog?  I have no idea.

Anybody else encountered this book or have any idea what they're wanting.

At one of my schools we have an English Festival. My coteacher told me to help teach the songs. When I pointed out to her that the students cannot sing the song well because they don't know the lyrics she said it didn't matter. I think likely your school wants the students to learn pronunciation but I recommend trying to find a way to teach the big words or maybe one line of meaning at a time.

Also I NEED that book. My students LOVE frozen. In one class alone I have an Olaf an Elsa and an Anna.

I got a little bit more detail.  It's being called a "golden bell" English competition.  I assume this means writing and no speaking.  Perhaps they'll speak the Korean phrase and they have to write the English translation (of vice-versa)?  Anyone have any ideas?

This is in Chungnam Province, by the way.  It's taking place on October 22nd.  Any info or educated guesses would be appreciated.

I can't speak for the contest, but I can tell you that the instructions in that book say something roughly like this: "Listening to the audio, follow along with the voice. Say the sentence three times." (Very roughly, but basically telling them to practice saying the sentence three times.)

This would seem to suggest pronunciation, but I also thought Golden Bell mostly focused on written things...

Hi, the Korean just says to follow along with the (singing?) words.  So just speaking practice really.
