Describing Animals Lesson
« on: April 11, 2011, 02:33:22 PM »
I used this ppt for 1st and 2nd grade.  (I took out some of the harder vocab ie: nocturnal, carnivore, etc for 1st graders).  For the activity I gave student teams pictures of animals.  When I called out a characteristic, such as "furry" or "has hooves" the first team to raise an animal card that matched the description got its card taken.  The team to run out of cards first, wins.

I have made a short "What am I?" power point which I will use in one of my weird pets classes (Textbook for 1st Grade Middle School, Lesson 3 in Jay Robert Fraser yellow book).

Give each student/team a piece of paper to write their answers. There are 10 animals.

It's good way to review all those animal description phrases and add some funny looking creatures at the same time.  You can ask the teams to read the clues out loud for more speaking practice.
