Lemon Tree
Fill-in-the-blanks.
I recommend letting them listen to it twice and try to fill in the blanks.
Check the answers together. 
Explain the lyrics.
Then show them this great video on Utube: 
They'll love it.

Lemon tree worksheet - middle school

This lesson was not originally my idea, the original worksheet was made by an "Alejandro." I did change his worksheet into what it is now.
I played the song "lemon tree - Fools garden" to the students once. Afterwards, I gave them the worksheet and instructed them to try and fill in the blanks. ( I wrote a sentence on the board first with a picture just to illustrate how it works and explained the opposite, unscramble the letters and the sequence question.) Make it clear that if they don't know the answer or the spelling of the word they should just skip it. My students got nervous when they didn't know and started copying from their friends.
After about 10 minutes I played the song to them twice and let them listen and try to complete the worksheet.
Then I showed them the power point so they can check their answers and spelling and fill in the answers that they didn't know.
They I read the song to them line for line and let them chant it back. If you have time left, you can let them sing along to the song.
This lesson worked pretty well and kept them engaged for the entire time.

Hey; I did it with my first graders. Most of them complained in the beginning that it's too difficult and refused to even try. But then I pointed at the pictures and ask them what is was, and they could answer.
They enjoyed listening to the song and filling in the blanks.
I think it'll work well for 2nd graders too.

Hey, I play this with my 3-5th grade elementary school students and they love it! I'm sure they don't know what 'isolation' means and a few others, but they get the general idea. Now they always ask to listen to it, they can't get enough.

Great lesson :D I remember hearing the Korean version in my teacher's car one day and went "Hey!! I know this song!!"

Hmm. Interesting excercise. I'm a bit confused: isn't it rather difficult to host an activity in Korean when I don't speak it? How do I know what I'm teaching? Translation sites don't seem to accept this sample.

I know that it's best to get the kids engaged over anything else and that often means making certain sacrifices, but how do we work in English with a song in Korean? Do you do one then the other? I may just be a bit confused.

Just saw this comment . . . when I posted the Korean version (wow, almost three years ago) I didn't mean for people to try to teach it or play it in class for students (they get enough Korean practice in English class as it is).  I just wanted to let people know there was a Korean cover, and I posted the lyrics just in case anyone wanted to read them on their own, as the Korean version is a bit different. 

Use the English song in English class, of course.

When you show the students the youtube video, do you play a video with lyrics so they can see them?
Also, can sum1 please post a working youtube link to the video? I've searched hard but can't find a nice one.

I used a worksheet  from a different thread and then added a crossword puzzle.

1) show video        3 min
2) hand out work sheet with lyrics and pictures - 10 min
3) play video song once more
5) take up answers - see powerpoint
6) Give s's crossword puzzle - tell them all the answers are in their 1st worksheet

"LEMON.doc" is the lyric worksheet I use. someone else posted on another thread. This one is great because the students have fun thinking of the answers instead of just listening.

Here is a ppt that I will use to take up the answers to my fill in the blank. The students are practicing the present progressive. I like explaining to my students the meaning of the song (my interpretation) when I teach.  I also work at an all girls' school so I am taking a girl's point of view.  I will spend a bit of time talking about point of view. I will explain the Brad Pitt reference. Students can try and change their point of view using the turning dancer picture. Most of my students will know the Korean drama that I reference but they are middle school girls so you may have to explain it or change the pic.

If there is time leftover I will probably give a simple word search. They will need to find the words and translate them.  If this was not after midterms I would probably get them to do a worksheet on present progressive. (I think I still may do that)
