So are you looking for short Mr. Bean video clips to elicit some talking from your students, perhaps to spice things up a little bit? Have you tried in vein to find the perfect Mr. Bean sequence that is short-but-sweet and provides just enough content to get your students inspired to practice their language acquisition? Well, look no further.

This PPT which can be downloaded **HERE** and contains several famous and short 2-3 minute video clips of Mr. Bean getting into trouble, as usual. I downloaded these clips from YouTube and edited them myself in Windows Movie Maker. I then culled them together into a presentation to review the Past Progressive tense (I love grammar!!). Here's how the PPT works and how the game is played:

Instructions
(1) Students review the form and meaning of the Past Progressive tense in the beginning slides of the PPT presentation.
(2) Students practice forming the tense by filling in the blanks with the proper verb tense (see the slides in the PPT presentation which you may wish to turn into a worksheet).

Now that the students have practised the past progressive tense, you can have them play the game and explore/experiment with producing the past progressive tense. Simply...

(3) Break the students into pairs or groups, in a way that makes the most sense for your particular classroom situation.
(4) Show the students one video clip at a time.
(5) Have the students write as many past progressive sentences about the video they have just seen, as many as they can within the allotted time span of 2 minutes max.
(6) Show them examples of sentences they could have written.
(7) Rinse and repeat until the bell rings.

**Special Note:
Download all three files from the link and keep all of them in one folder, in the same arrangement in which they appeared. This will allow you to access the videos on the PPT, as they are connected only to the folder and not the web. I made the videos manually myself, after all.

Please note also that there are other non-Mr. Bean video clips in this PPT. I strongly recommend you peruse the PPT and files before use.

For anyone who missed it, here again is the link where you can download the PPT:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BzJfIp5-OTLZWEVLZGV3dWpBNE0&usp=sharing.
I would have totally uploaded the entire folder on this thread, but the file is 450 MBs!!!

In any event, I do hope this helps some of you. If you have any trouble with downloading the file(s), do not hesitate to post here and describe your problem. As always, I will try my best to rectify the situation.

Best of luck,

T

I've also included a worksheet to go with this lesson (see attached). The worksheet corresponds to the slides!

Enjoy!

Just a quick update:

I tried this lesson today with my first and second grade middle schoolers, and they really enjoyed it! They thought the videos were really funny! There was only one time when I needed my co-teachers to step in and translate for me the directions on how to play the game, but once the students understood what to do, they had a lot of fun.

After every video, I would have each group read their sentences aloud while I tallied the score on the board. Sometimes I would have Group One start with providing their sentences, but in subsquent rounds, I would start with Group Three or Group Two--making sure to call some of the students by name to signal that it was their turn to provide me with feedback--just to change things up a bit. It seemed like a pretty decent system.

We didn't even get to the third video by the end of the class because I had to first explain the form and meaning of the past progressive at the beginning of class which took up a good chunk of time. I think what I'm going to do is continue with the game next week so I can reinforce the material.

I actually try not to teach English as an "out there subject," something that requires understanding the structure, but I did, however, find this particular lesson effective (if I do say so myself). Will be interested in reading about what other people have experienced with this powerpoint-game.

Hope it's as well-received in other areas of Korea as it was at mine.

Best of luck,

One more note....

I would also like to mention that I skipped the clip from the movie Not Another Teen Movie in my middle school classes because I viewed the subtle sexual undertones as inappropriate for them. I simply skipped the slide and moved on.

No other video clips in the ppt, as far as I can tell, are as questionable (with maybe the exception of the Naked Gun video clips which show some overt violence... but I guess that's your judgement call.).

Hope this helps!

hey Todd, nice lesson  8)

I made a worksheet to go along with the videos. my kids often struggle to do free writing type stuff without any guidance, so for the first 4 videos i gave them some help. then the next 6 they do the free-writing thang.

someone can do 10 videos using this worksheet, that's because I wanted to fit it onto an even number of pages so they can be printed double-sided.

Excellent work, Johnny! Really good thinking! I will distribute these bad boys to my students next week, for sure!

Many thanks for the contribution!

Sincerely,
