« on: October 14, 2014, 05:52:48 PM »
My students sing a new pop song each week - with English vocals. They read/sing along with the English words and have a Korean translation. My coteacher and I are running out of ideas and would be greatful for any suggestions :-D

I haven't played all of these, but they're ones that I thought about playing. I guess they were popular earlier this summer:

Ariana Grande - The Way
Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt So Good
Jimmy Fallon, Idina Menzel, The Roots - Let It Go (using classroom instruments)
MAGIC! - Rude
Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass (contains a couple swear words though)
Charli XCX - Boom Clap

Umbrella - Rihanna
Roar - Katy Perry
Sing - My Chemical Romance
Who Says You Can't Go Home - Bon Jovi
Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
Ho Hey - Lumineers

Search on youtube for:

Bruno Mars - Sesame Street
Will.I.Am. - Sesame Street

These two songs have been successful at both the elementary and middle school level

My students are doing Friday, I'm in Love right now.

I'm wondering why you do a new song each week? Can they really learn them that fast? Do they sing the songs again later? And, I wish I had a co-teacher like yours! ;)

I recommend Backstreet Boys' songs and Michael Jackson. They're alright songs and kind of nostalgic, even though I thought they were totally girls' music during my Rage Against the Machine youth. Most of the music I listen to doesn't go well with class. I like Rush, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, The Cure, The Doors, etc. The latest bands I listen to are DMB and Third Eye Blind.

Hi there Star Thrower, they learn a new song each fornight and they have the lyrics in English and then a translation in Korean. At the end of the two weeks the principle judges which class sings the best and at the end of the semester the best class will get some sort of prize. It is a small scool of 150 students that has an art grant so it's a great school to be at and I have great coteachers :-D
