Slender Man Elimination Game
« on: October 27, 2014, 11:33:35 AM »
Last year at Halloween I treated my kids to a lesson revolving around the Slender Man myth and games. Since then they have been absolutely nuts over the concept, so I made a themed game in time for halloween that's readily adaptable for all levels and is very straightforward.

If you heard of the "Banana Game" that's floating around out there, this is similar in nature. Students proceed in turns and read the words that appear on their slide. If Slender appears, they "Die" and sit down. If a page appears, they can choose a student who was taken by Slender and have them be "Reborn." Play continues until you reach a preset number of last students standing.

There are two fonts you need to display this correctly. They are included in the post.

Finally, I've heard that some people find the footsteps a little lengthy and would rather skip them. Just hit the right arrow key when they appear if this is the case. Personally I and my students prefer the drawn out footsteps because it makes it really atmospheric and suspenseful, and given the theme that's kind of the whole point. Still, to each their own.

Enjoy!

For the sound issues -- What version of office are you running? I have this confirmed working on 2010-2013 on multiple computers. I still have the clips so I can throw those up here as well if you like but you'd have to manually stick them in and there are some that are involved in delayed/timed events.

I'm running the 2007 version of PowerPoint on my school PC.  :undecided: I'll check the game on the classroom computers though, as those have 2010.

This looks like such fun.  I am going to use this next week after my kids have finals - what a great way to let them relax a little and forget about the bleeding textbook!!
Thank you so much!

great game man! if it was you who made the Slenderman directions lesson last year that was a great lesson as well, i had my high school kids literally running out of the classroom screaming when Slenderman appeared

i've edited the powerpoint here so that it contains four short scary stories that the kids should read out. i've balanced the slendermans (slendermen?) and the 'pages' in such a way that there should be 3 kids left standing at the end out of a class of 30. i always like to have more than 1 winner for stuff like this or to give recognition down to at least 3rd place, considering how hyper-competitive kids in Korea can be and how being number 1 is also seen as so important.

these stories are meant for high school level so use them at your own discretion for middle school.

i've also been having a problem with some of the slides with footprints showing up as white. no idea why. i've tried CTRL+D and copy + paste to duplicate the slides and it's the same problem using both methods. it's not a huge problem though, everything else still works.

also, there aren't as many 'challenge' slides as i'd probably like in here, but i've been completely swamped with work this week so haven't had much time to spend editing this lesson.

hope someone can find some use for this regardless  8)

Just want to report back that I played this game with a low level group of post-exam third grade middle school students. They loved it. Some couldn't face the screen for fear of Slenderman. It was very well received. Thanks a bunch miscreantinblack!!  ;D

Hello I am asking about the slenderman game

I can see this easily working in a class 15 and under.

But a class of 30 is this possible. I feel like they would only be able to read once. Am I getting this right?

They read the phrase or challenge phrase (one student per phrase) and sit depending on if slenderman comes or not?

My kids are pretty low level so they wouldnt understand the story so I would just use the phrases we are learning.

But how exactly does this work turn based? Is it one student per phrase?

I played this with a class of around 10 students. It worked well, but only ran for about 30 minutes. This probably wouldn't be a good game for a much larger class, for the problems you stated. Plus, this seems like a seasonal sort of game -- who wants to be scared by Slenderman in the spring or summer months?

i really like the powerpoint and the principle of this game. but i tried it with one of my classes at my high school last year and it was a complete disaster. one of the big problems is that students need to stand, then only sit down if slenderman comes. yeah i had half the class sitting after 5 minutes because they just don't want to stand up. good luck keeping track of who's out and who's not when half the class is sitting regardless.

and because it takes so long to get around to any one individual student's turn i had half the class incessantly talking after about 5-10 minutes too because they just get bored. i would recommend using this for a small-ish afterschool class or if you teach in a rural school with small classes, for a class of 30 i just don't think it's feasible.

Thanks guys for the reply!!!

I'm pretty much proff horror  at my school. I always play scary movies in my classroom. my room is also pitch black too. So all my kids are scared and on edge all the time. I'll  use this sometime with my B students roughly 14 students per class.

If you wanna scare your kids
type into youtube "lights out  short film" freaks my kids every time. ㅋㅋㅋ
