Here's my take on the hot-chocolate class. It went great with my well-behaved eager 9th graders. The real test come in two weeks when I show it to the noisy uninterested 7th graders!
First: find as many words as you can in the given phrase.
Second: Hot Chocolate, the band from the 70s with their hit tune "You Sexy Thing" (accompanied by terrible Google-Translated lyrics). I showed them an animation of a dancing mouse with a funny ending.
Third: How to make hot chocolate. I followed the students' instructions with some entertaining results. Most students didn't specify how much powder/water to use, so I gave them three teaspoons of powder with half a teaspoon water. Or a few grains of powder and a cup of water. Eventually everyone got their cup (or two!) of delicious choco.
The last slide is a worksheet. The penultimate slide is a groovy '70s background. I had some classic hits lined up in case we finished early.
