A PPT on jobs/professions meant for 4th graders and worksheet to go along with PPT. Good for younger elementary students.

Probably better for lower grades ~ may be too simple/easy for 6th ^^

I only have kindergarten classes, so most of these topics are too advanced.  But, if the kids see Mario, they dont care how difficult it is, they want to do it, so thanks!

Hello~ I used Daejeon's amazing Fruit Ninja template to make a game for lesson 9. She's a Police Officer. Please make note that you will have to change slide 28 from a picture of me to a picture of you : ) Enjoy~!

I made a basic intro powerpoint to review the jobs mentioned in the mario game. I've also attached a veeeeery slightly modified version of the bomb game that replaces the word jumble questions with copies of some of the other profession questions, making it suitable for younger grades

This is a great PPT, but I'm experiencing a glitch. When I'm merely looking at the PPT, the white bars with the Xs and Os at their ends appear. But once in slideshow view, they aren't visible. What am I doing wrong, if anything?

Thank you.

Hmm, that's strange. I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Maybe check your security settings and make sure nothing is being restricted? Other than that, I'm not sure what could be wrong. Sorry :(

Here's a simple intro ppt I made using the pictures from the fruit ninja game above. Thanks for that and here you are!

Occupations - A-Z game
« Reply #14 on: June 15, 2012, 11:22:52 AM »
Get Ss to see if they can write down as many occupations from A-Z.
I usually break it up into groups. ie. Group 1 = A-G; Group 2 = H-M....so the task doesn't seem to daunting.

Here is the blank worksheet.
And worksheet with some answers.

Co-teacher asked me for a simple non-textbook review of professions for grade 5, so I came up with this--

1- Started with this video posted in the Grade 6 "My father is a pilot" thread (credit to kiddiecat, thanks!) Ask my kids what jobs they saw, what's our topic for the day. http://static.animoto.com/swf/w.swf?w=swf/vp1&e=1308114926&f=QtGcea4sTCyG1MCJ8P5r0g&d=34&m=b&r=360p&volume=100&start_res=360p&i=m&options=
2-  PPT introducing key phrases and then some jobs. They are familiar with the basics, but some are new (i.e. athlete, a little hard to pronounce but it covers a broad spectrum of my kids' interests)
3- Pass the Object game (part of the ppt) I brought in 7 objects that represent jobs (spatula, toy microphone, etc) and since we have 7 tables in our classroom, I have them pass the objects from table to table. When the music stops, the whole class asks "What do you want to be?" and the table with that item answers.
4- Students write their own answers to the question "what do you want to be?" Then walk around and meet other students. They ask and answer, then write their friends' names and jobs in the 3x3 square on the bottom of the worksheet.
5- In the last 5 minutes, I use a random number generator to pick a student. Everyone asks that student "what do you want to be?" and they answer. If any of of the kids have that student's name, they can cross it off. We play it like bingo til the end of the class.

If you ever need a random quick review of jobs, hopefully this helps!

Here is an activity with a survey to engage the students.
