Sentence Unscramble and Speed Quiz
« on: November 07, 2014, 10:36:14 AM »
I used these two activities together.

For the sentence unscramble I didn't give team points, I gave a piece of candy to whichever individual student gave the correct answer.

Speed quiz, have a student from each team come to the front, face his back to the screen and have his team use English to help him guess who is on the picture behind. I use a points scale from 1-5. 5 means they used some sentences and didn't break any rules. 1 means they used some Korean, motions etc.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the post: some nice activities!

I'm curious as to what level these are aimed at: some of those scrambled sentences use very non-standard grammar structures, and I doubt that my middle school students would know even a third of those famous people/characters (heck, there are several there that some NETs wouldn't recognize).

Also, about how much time would each activity take, approximately?

Your students know who Bob Marley and Donald Trump are? That's pretty impressive. The last (and only) time I included a picture of Will Smith in a presentation, my students all thought it was Barack Obama.  :lipsrsealed:

There is a mistake on one of the slides -- Bill Gates is incorrectly labeled as Bill Clinton. While my students would know the former, they wouldn't know the latter.

The sentence unscramble takes about 10mins, I give them hints and they guess. I've been pretty impressed with how capable they've been though. Aimed at my high schoolers. I stretch the speed quiz out to about 30-35mins

haha yeah some of the people they didn't know, which is why they have a free pass. They also get creative with their hints, for example: Bob Marley: Rice in Korean (Bap), Donald Trump: Famous duck + famous card game. etc.

While we're picking it apart, that guy hasn't been the Pope for almost two years now.

Fun fact: the Monopoly guy's name is Uncle Pennybags.

Yeah the pope one is way too difficult as it is (I have no idea who the pope actually is, myself). I actually took all these people from another persons famous people game...
