I need help!!!

My co teacher has just informed me that we will be doing this lesson for our open class in May.
I have to plan everything for it and as its my first open class I'm a little unsure of whats expected to be honest. She is really stressing out!! What activities/games would be FUN and INTERESTING for this lesson?

Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I think she wants a lesson plan by the end of the day.  ???

Thank you this really is great. Saves me oodles of time etc.

SoKo - Maybe a simple game to start, just to get them familiarised with the sports -  hand out flashcards, make students try to find partner with matching sport...but make sure they know to ask 'what sport do you play?', and to answer, 'I play _____',

Or you could make the flashcards more complex, and introduce them in the latter half of the lesson...maybe with a sport and a condition, eg. Baseball, Tired (and you can work it out so that they have to say 'lets play _________' / 'OK great' / 'Sorry, _____'

Here is a pass-the-ball game. The students are asked to look at the picture and make a sentence, like "let's play baseball", etc. My kids are a pretty high level, I might do this as a warm-up, before I even start period 1!

Here is another game, electronic battleship. This was someone else's grade 5 lesson, but I modified it for my class.

Split the class into 2 teams, A and B. The kids play rock-paper-scissors to determine which team goes first. Ask 2 kids at a time to stand up and make a sentence. "Let's play basketball." and "Okay!" The purpose of the game is to sink 5 ships in the other team's ocean. Keep playing until you have a winner.

Bring a handful of candy to class too, because some kids might land on a candy!

2 Powerpoints I made for lesson 5.
The first teaches all the vocab.
The second is a race car game for period 4 or review of lesson 5.

Gameboards for Tactical Tic-Tac-Toe. Print one per 2 students. (I modified this game from another user's template - thanks to the OP!)

Rock, Scissors, Paper for first turn. Student 1 says the first line (chooses row - ie. "Let's play basketball"), Student 2 says the second (chooses a column - ie. "Sorry, I can't. I am sick."). The intersection of the row and column is where Student 1 puts their game piece/mark. 3 in a row wins, diagonal's OK. Dialogue for the students is clearly stated at the bottom. Switch roles (A/B) after each turn.

This unit can be fun, especially if you implement something the kids know..the Winter Olypmics ^^ There are tons of diff sports and symbols teh kids can use, and you can even have them act out the easier sports.

Let's play X Mario Game
« Reply #10 on: May 11, 2011, 01:31:28 pm »
I updated the mario game. I did it for g4 l5 Let's play x.
To make a new game just move the slides around. Make sure you update the links for the special blocks.
There are 7 special mushrooms.

I cut down on the number of slides too. It may be too crowded when you change content. You should just be able to change the picture without moving anything around. Use "move to back" or "front" if you need. Enjoy. Tell me what you think!

Here's a word search I made for this one lesson. It does have a couple words from previous lessons as well.
