Guess the Kpop Songs (Kpop Mashup Game)

Every year DJ Masa on Youtube does a mashup of a bunch of that year's Kpop songs mixed into one song. The goal of the game is to write down as many song name + artist names they can hear in the song.


This song has 80 diferent Kpop songs rom 2013 mashed together.

In the Youtube description of the video, there is a complete list of all the names and titles in English BUT many students will NOT know the English names. I told them a Korean name is worth 1 point and an English name is 2 points.

For example: Beast - Shadow is worth 4 points (2 for English name, 2 for English title)

I then picked up the sheets and graded them during my desk warming. If I could do it over again I would make an answer sheet with both English and Korean names. Have the students switch papers and grade them themselves. It was kind of a hassle to do it my way. Maybe if people decide to use this in class they will make it and can kindly attach it.

1. Pair up the students and give them a piece of white paper.
2. Play the video.
3. Give them 5-10 minutes to discuss
4. Play it again.
5. Give them another 5-10 minutes.
(I only played it twice, but you can play it three times if you want)

Usually it took me around 30-35 minutes to finish. I usually spend 5 minutes talking to them at the beginning of every class, so you might have 5 to 10 minutes extra left in class. You can do whatever you want for that, but I showed them the 2012 version just for fun.



Hopefully this gives you something easy to do for a week.

Do you have a list of the artists or song titles so we can check? Or do you just trust the students to give you the actual artists or songs?

All the names in English are in the description of the Youtube video. To get the Korean names you'd have to look up each song to see, which is a bit time consuming. If I have some time, I will make a grading sheet today.

This will work out great and take up a good 20-25 minutes of class time. Great idea! Does anybody have the Korean names of the songs?

I whipped up an answer/grading sheet! I'm not entirely sure on the accuracy, but I had one of my classes use it today and it was all good. I had them exchange papers (the white paper they used to write down all the names) and gave each group a grading sheet. They circles the points each song got, and then added them all up at the end.

For those you who have taught this lesson, just wondering what age the students were? Considering it for my 6th graders. they're pretty high level but don't know how many of these they would be able to give the title in English

I played with middle school students, but getting English song titles was still decently rare. Elementary students should still be able to get most of the English artist names though. Even students that don't know much English were having a lot of fun -- it's not really meant to teach or practice much of anything :x
