Would your class(es) like some NZ pen-friends?
« on: January 24, 2015, 12:04:45 PM »
Hi there. I teach the equivalent of Korean year 2 middle school to year 2 high school in NZ. I'd love to arrange for one or all of my classes to do a pen-friend exchange or series of exchanges with a class or classes in Korea. If you have a class of 20+ that has the ability to come up with at least comprehensible letters it could be great fun to do an exchange. I can guarantee that the excitement and enthusiasm this will create will be worth the cost of postage, and it might be your students' only opportunity to communicate with native speakers their own age. Our school years are similar so this could make a good ongoing activity. Mine would focus more on things like descriptive writing whereas yours could focus on plain composition.

Hi there:

I'm very interested in your post about setting up pen-pals. The new semester starts on Monday and I would be delighted to coordinate this project with you for this term.

I teach High School Grade 1 and 2 in Daegu and my students are at a high level and are super kind.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

:)

What an excellent idea. I would be very interested in this as I teach in a public middle school but many of my students are high level kids so they would really like this kind of activity. How many classes do you teach? I can get at least 20 kids to participate...probably more will ask to do it. Thanks send me a pm if its possible. Have a good one :P ;D

I don't know my class sizes yet but this interests me.  Also I know a teacher in rural Japan who teaches at-risk kids who'd enjoy this as well.

What I would really like, however, is a Skype session with your New Zealand class.  We've Skyped to Japan and my students are always asking for more countries to talk to.  It's a great motivator and a way to see culture close up.  Are you interested?

Count me in! I teach a boys and girls private high school and for the past two years we have written Flat Stanley letters to students in foreign countries and famous folks. It is a giant hit with the kids. I can direct as many letters as you can hand out. I have about 400 kids. We can also skype. Look forward to hearing from you!
