Captain America English Store Money for Rewards
« on: February 23, 2015, 01:37:44 PM »
Hi guys. I'm doing an English store where my 5th and 6th grade elementary students can buy stationary and other little stuff this year. I'm American, so I put Captain America on the money and edited it a little for my purposes. Here is the system I'm using:

Students have a stamp sheet and earn stamps for winning games, getting 100 on a test or for special occasions or activities (like during our English festivals). When they get 10 stamps, a teacher will mark the 10 stamps and give the student 1 "English Dollar" (signed on the back by the teacher - I'm also suggesting, of course, that students write their names on them).

Once students have started to earn English Dollars, I will make an announcement during our English broadcast and the English Store (a display cabinet in my 5th grade classroom) will be open. It will probably be once every other week during the after lunch free time. During that time, students can spend their English Dollars. They will be expected to make the transaction in English, but even my 4th graders have had the basics of "May I help you.", "How much is it?" and so-on, so it's not asking much.

If it helps to have some ideas of the sort of items I'm talking about - my mum has sent me some stuff like stickers, temporary tattoos and mini-coloring books from the US and I have picked up some folders, notebooks, pencils and other cute, cheap stationary stuff. I'm also going to pick up some American candy, like snickers (at the $1 mark). So far, the majority of what I have is Frozen, Disney Princess, Monsters Inc. and Marvel themed. I want to pick up some KPOP and LOL themed stuff if I can, because that's what my 6th graders go nuts for. I will also offer class coupons ("skip 1 homework assignment" type of stuff), but I have to talk this over with my coteachers and they will be more expensive. Almost everything is between 1 and 5 English Dollars so that it stays obtainable for the students.

Template I used is here:

It's Angry Birds themed. There's a money backside if you want it too.

Good luck and happy teaching.
