This lesson is kind of difficult, but I am having success with it so far, so I thought I would share. I am doing in period six, Story Pot.

The movie Lion is out right now and it is a true story about a boy that went missing in India and was adopted to a family in Australia. Later, he used Google Earth to find his hometown and his family again.

I had a hard time condensing his story and making it easy, but I choose easy words for the students to fill in and many are vocabulary from this lesson.

First we watch the trailer to the movie. It is the first video on this blog page. Make sure to refresh the page after each viewing because for some reason it won't play again if you don't.

Then, I tell the students it is a true story, and show them this video that explains the plot in Korean. Again, refresh the page after each viewing.

Next, we pass out the story. The vocabulary for each side is on the bottom of the page. First, we go through each word and they write it in Korean. We do it again for the back page.

Then, I tell the students I will read the story to them. I say the sentences without blanks only one time, but sentences with blanks two times. I make sure to enunciate the word they are supposed to fill in.

After, I show them a photo of Saroo with his two mothers.

The lesson has been taking about 25 minutes so far. I don't expect the understand the whole story, nor my Korean teachers to translate it word for word. It is more about writing and listening practice and listening to storytelling.

So far, the lesson is going well. It is definitely a lesson for higher level students.

Where Are You From Guessing Game for Period 5.

Materials: Whiteboards, markers, erasers.

Break class into groups of 4-6 students. The ppt contains pictures of various celebrities from 6 countries mentioned in lesson 1.2. You show them the picture and name of the celebrity. The students have one minute (There is a ring that slowly disappears once you click the slide) to write "She/He is from _______". When the time was over. Each team had to state "He/She is from _______."  Each team gets a point for correct guesses.

At the end of this game I emphasized the importance of learning the phrase "Where are you from?" because every country is not homogeneous. You can't simply look at people and know where they are from anymore so it is best to learn how to ask.  I think it helps to know something about each celebrity so you may want to do a simple google search of each person. I usually said "This is _____. She is a comedic actress" "This is ________ but you might know him as Wolverine"

I played this game over 2 periods. I was able to get through 6 celebrities each time. My students really enjoyed this game.
