Best courier for sending documents internationally from the UK?
« on: February 25, 2015, 04:07:28 PM »
Having a frustrating time trying to find a price for shipping some important documents internationally from the UK.

I've got websites asking me for the Height, Width and Length of my parcel.

BUT

I'm sending a C4 size envelope with paper in it.
Envelopes don't have a LENGTH! But every single website I've been on won't give me a quote without inserting a length!

I've done this before but I'm stressed through my eye balls and I've got no idea how to price this shit up.

It's asking for the parcel weight but I've got no scales. Meh.

Thoughts?

Are you in the UK? Just pop into your local post office.

If not, here's a range of dimensions for standard envelopes (believe it or not, envelopes do have lenghths, widths and even heights...as all 3 dimensional objects do!) - http://www.severnprint.co.uk/resources-box/paper-sizes/

Whatever you do....DO NOT USE PARCELFORCE!!!!!!! Fedex and DHL operate in UK so you're covered there.

Your average C-4 envelope should weigh around 200-800g, depending on what it is made of, and what is inside - http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/Tell-me-about-size-and-weight-formats

Good luck!

Thanks for the info but all those dimensions only state: width and height (or length) 2 figures.

Why not use parcelforce?

I used DHL with no problem. They have a fixed price for a big A4 envelope. I think it was about 37 pounds so not cheap but you can send them at most WHSmith shops and other locations.

For an A4 envelope it was cheaper than the post office.

The measurements are length by width. Height refers to the depth of the envelope with its contents inside.

I don't know if they've improved yet, but as of the time I left the UK to come to korea (2011), parcel force were notorious for delay or loss or even both delay and loss of documents and parcels.

I once had to deal with their sorry excuse for a customer service centre...incompetent does not begin to describe them

Did you pay for it online? Cos I'm on their website now and it's woefully bad. Can't find anything.

I used Royal Mail and they took the biscuit! So don't use their international tracked and signed etc, best go with another company as stated above

Yup! Parcel Force is the courier service provided by Royal Mail.

Take heed and do not think of using them for international shipping!

My sister used Royal Mail's International Tracked and Signed service recently to send me some important paperwork, it cost £12.45, she posted them on a Monday and I got them on the Friday of that same week, I was able to track them every step of the way, both on Royal Mail's website and Korea Post's website. There were no problems at all.

When I was sending my documents to Korea I also used Royal Mail, at that time the service was called International Signed For Printed Papers, and again it was problem free.

If you want to get trackable, insured and guaranteed delivery, use interparcel.co.uk. They are a broker and you can get the exact same service as DHL, FEDEX etc but for about of the price, so if I were you I would recommend that.
