I was told this year that our 3rd graders might be on the sensitive side. From what I heard, last year there was a lot of hurt feelings during competitive games.

What games do you suggest that have the least competition but still provide motivation? If they were competing against me in some way (not in a way where teacher can win, more like they have a chance to maybe do a lottery or get me to do something, I don't know) would that be doable?

I'd like to work towards competition in the future. If they're going to be sore losers, I fear for their futures if we just avoid all competition.

I say tough cookies and do competive games anyways :-P There wasn't a time in my class where there wasn't one or two 4th graders in each class that would either get up and kick a chair, yell "싫어" really loud, or burst into tears. I say do it. They will learn to toughen up and know what competition is all about. That's the real world and the real world has disappointment. Don't worry you will get negitive reactions at first but the sore loser kids will learn to buck up and play along if they don't want to be seen as the class cry baby.
