buying a Mac in Korea (ed discount)
« on: February 27, 2015, 02:55:01 PM »
Hey guys, I'm considering buying a Mac Pro here in Korea but I've read conflicting view on this website and others about whether we are entitled to avail of the education discount.
I've read you can't get the discount in stores , only online....

Has anyone bought a Mac here and what was you experience of that?

You're better off buying online. I bought mine at the Lotte Department store, last month, and they put it on order, had to wait almost 2 weeks. The clerk didn't want to give a discount. Luckily, a lovely Korean lady saw that the clerk was struggling to explain, in English, that a discount wasn't possible. She offered to translate and in the end I got a 50k discount on my Macbook pro.

Call the Apple Korea number which will patch you through to Australia, the Philippines or Singapore so you can talk to someone in English and they will tell you the process on getting the education discount.

My school orders iPads and I imagine we get a discount so I don't see why there wouldn't be some discount available providing you have the documentation that you work at a school and are a teacher.

I called the Apple Korea number like Jgrat said and they gave me the discount. I just had my co teacher with me to confirm everything and then she had to fax a form to them and all was done. The mace arrived a couple of days after and would have been next delivery had it not been for me getting upgrades.
