ATTN: Wake up, and question our current human experience
« on: March 11, 2015, 12:28:24 PM »
http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/03/10/eye-opening-short-video-summarizes-everything-thats-wrong-with-our-society/

"we all live the same lives. We are born, we go to school, we don’t learn anything about the planet, we are simply prepared to enter into the workforce. After that, we wake up, go to work, come home, pay bills, and repeat this cycle until our death. Sure, there is lots of room to experience joy, enjoy what you do, have a family and so on, but we’ve become so attached and caught up in this cycle that it’s prevented us from questioning anything about what it is we do, why we do it, and what is happening to the planet while we are doing it. We’ve become slaves to the system"

Read almost 100 times and no one has anything to say? Hopefully everyone is in between classes and/or too busy to watch the video or comment at this time. I'm hopeful things will change.

I totally agree with you. What do you plan to do about it? I don't have time to watch the video yet. I have watched enough John Taylor Gatto and also conspiracy videos to anticipate the content of the video though. We are cattle in human farms called country for the most part. I think most people know this. I think few of us have the will or know how to do anything about it.

If you try and take what the earth provides, you'll be locked away.

This turned me off in the first minute. What does that statement mean exactly? Do corporations want to make it illegal for the average Joe to have a garden?

Quote
The planet will be here, whether we are or not.

The video reiterates that individual humans will live and die. That is the natural course of a (wo)man. Is it not then, the natural course for societies to live and die, and eventually humanity? That's a scary thought. Your own mortality is hard enough to come to terms with, but ultimately one must accept death. Should we begin accepting the idea that our race will one day die too? If not, then why?

I'm willing to bet that most people here have thought about this in depth before. It's easy to complain but much harder to find solutions to complicated issues, no?

"Man is born free and yet everywhere he is in chains." JJ Rousseau and other great thinkers have already smashed this topic. If it captures your interest, I suggest you delve into various multi-volume works by people like JS Mill, John Locke, etc etc, that cover the main arguments.

agreed. But even a discussion such as this is spreading awareness. I would argue that that is better than nothing.

regardless of past thinkers smashing the topic. i find it much more relevant and useful to post such videos and articles because i doubt anyone who hasn't already read those works would want to be reading about it in that form on waygook.org. i'm not looking for arguments. i'm looking for a discussion about those arguments. i'm interested in what others think. if this is an issue that most of us agree, is reading those multi-volume works just reading material? or does it mean something further than just marking it off your reading list.

I took Existentialism in university.

It's a phase many go through to find themselves and their place in the universe.

Whatever floats your boat.

Hm. I suppose one could argue that. But, I'm not sure that's what the video/idea was going for. Furthermore, even if it was, I don't think that it's necessary. Perhaps I don't understand, but how does accepting the idea that "our race" will die change the central focus of the video/discussion? I'd say, regardless, the central focus of the video/message holds true.

H. I have an awesome life. I do what I want, enjoy my work, my free time and my friends. I have awesome hobbies that challenge me and that I gradually get better at. I have not had one bad day in over 10 years. I am master of all I survey. I'm going to go eat my lunch, look at how my stocks are doing and go plan my holiday to Sri Lanka.

Not sure what the floating my boat is suppose to mean. but yes. existentialism is the name of this game we are talking about. knowing you have once thought about and studied it means your a great candidate to contribute some pretty neat perspective.

Having a discussion about something I refer to as the, for the lack of a better word, matrix, doesnt mean i am in any way, in opposition towards "us" as a people. I'm not here to be the "neo" and/or hero. I live in the matrix the same as the next guy. it's an open discussion to express your opinions. my comment was a mere  assumption based on your "yawn." this offers no discussion, but a concession to the status quo. i was hoping for a discussion to take in perspectives that i have yet to think of. I am in no way against anyones opinion or perspective. I for one, am no better than any other individual free thinker.

good man. its good to see the positives in everyday life. other people will try to convince you how horrible your life is and that you need to 'wake up' or some other bullshit. They just want you to be as miserable and depressed as they are.

//

If you are apt to believe in this hocus pocus stuff (and other conspiracy theories), maybe you are suffering from seasonal depression and need more sunlight. Get out more, meet your friends more and take up some hobbies.

this has all been discussed to death as many have stated here already. you wont find any new or enlightening opinions here on a board for waygooks that you couldn't find in any book covering this topic. I don't believe in this 'matrix' conspiracy theory that you are bringing up so we dont have much common ground ghere.

Naive BS in my opinion.  This is what I thought when I was in high school and thought I was one uniquely smart individual.  Surprise, I'm not and neither is this guy.  This is just a lot of rhetoric that sounds nice but is ultimately severely flawed and shortsighted.  He points to all these things like they are bad.  Like learning about the world from a book or computer is inferior to experiencing it first hand.  I'm sorry, but I thought of all this sh*t when I was in high school and I cringe at myself thinking back.
