This is a thread for any lesson material for YBM (2009-2013) Middle School English 3 Lesson 3: The Power of Expectations. Please share your contributions here. Practices: "It is important to..."
Good for all levels
Needs 15-45 minutes to play.*

(Save everything together in one folder or the gif's and the music won't play. Instructions are on slide 5.)

*You can seriously stretch it as long as you want to. Also, for a bonus activity, have a "fast money" round where two students from each team play. 1 student from each team goes into the hallway, while the others stand in front of their team. For 30 seconds you say things like:
"How was....
-my music concert
-my art exhibit
-my dance recital, etc."
They each give an answer (Wonderful! I enjoyed it!) and their team writes it down. Then they sit down and the other students come in. If the second student says the same thing as their partner for any of the categories, they get an extra point.

I made a PPT that covers just the study points and gives students some speaking practice. It's not very long, but my students enjoy this kind of speaking practice and the pics generally get a good reaction. You may note a slight Big Bang obsession in this one. ;)

I also made a very straight-forward worksheet with the study points, a vocab list and some practice. This one is pretty easy as the kids just finished mid-terms and I don't want to tax their poor brains.

Next week I'll make a game to give them loads of speaking practice, and I think I'll have them draw an advice cartoon illustrating the dialogue for study point 2.

Batman Bomb Game. Mostly hits upon the Listen and Speak sections in the text book - key expression (It's important to..., You did a good job, I'm glad you like it). A few of the questions came from the vocabulary worksheet I posted. Feel free to edit any of the questions to fit your lessons.

I'll also be posting a Midterm Review Bomb game maybe next week. It'll cover Lessons 1-3. If you want it, be sure to check the review section for grade 3.

Also made a pass the marker worksheet game for my upper level students.

Have students fill in the chart with their partner as a warm-up, then in groups of 4 have them do the speed debate (like in the example) while you play music. Whoever is talking holds a marker and whenever the music stops whoever is holding the marker loses a point. (Start them off with 5 or 10 points depending on how much time you have. Or just give everyone not holding the marker a point. Your zoo, your monkeys. I like playing Mission Impossible to add a bit of tension to the room.
