Part 1 of lesson. Focuses on "Can/Could you explain _____"

PPT is rough.

game - rest of class.

game: decode the code. give each student a code. (they are words). give each student an uncoded letter. they have to go around asking each other if they can explain any of the symbols. I only used letters a-p (16 letters so there should be 1-2 of them floating around the class) and made 32 four letter words. I figured it would take too long otherwise.

first 5 people can get candy but if the entire class can decode their slips before the times up, can finish class early/music video. in my case, I give them study time because they have a test coming up. - have to make sure that even after they decoded the word, they keep playing because they carry a decoded letter.

*edit* #8 is meant to be 'pond' but it read 'pjnd' so I edited it.
note: just played for the first time today - game goes a lot faster than anticipated - just around 15 to explain and have the entire class finish.

I took an "asking advice" template I found on waygook (not sure of the OP- sorry!) and adapted it to fit the language of this lesson.

And the instructions ppt is Jurassic Park/Word themed....because dinosaurs.   

My lesson takes the whole period. Adapt it to fit however long you need it for.



*Speaking Korean: my co-teach and I walk around with red markers. If we hear a word of Korean we slash their beautiful art work amidst many wails, moans, and gnashing of teeth. Haha, we just make a big mark on their paper, ruining the aesthetic. Anyway, we take the number of marks into account when picking a winner. Keeps them all using English the entire period. #winning

I took jjl059's original PPT (thanks for that) and added the 2nd Key Expression "Do you know what I mean?", as well as, some texting acronyms from the book.
I also included a mini-worksheet that follows the PPT for studying purposes for the final.
