I've been using this lesson with my 1st and 2nd grade high schoolers and the kids have been getting pretty into it.  The idea is that they have won a certain amount of money to plan their dream European vacation!  Yippeee

I start out with a powerpoint that covers the vocab on the worksheet (ie. airfare, accommodations, etc.).  I have the students compare pictures of first class seats vs. economy seats, a 5 star hotelroom vs. a hostel room, etc.  I would upload my powerpoint but am having technical difficulties.  Oh, and you will need to label the map on the price list/map paper since it is blank.

Then I put them into pairs and handout the 2 worksheets.  After they are settled each pair draws a piece of paper from a bag.  Each piece of paper has a different amount of Euros on it, some of the students will be rich (11,800 Euros), some of them will be broke (5,000 Euros), and everyone else will be somewhere inbetween.

I explain any parts of the worksheets the may not understand, for example some of the prices are per person while others are per night so they need to adjust their math accordingly.  After everything is explained I let them go to town.

I use this lesson as a 2 parter.  The first day they plan their trip and the second day they present.  I have each group get in front of the class and tell us how much money they have, where they are going, and what kind of plane tickets they purchased.  Then I ask them 3 questions about their trip, ie. "On Tuesday where will you eat lunch?" or "On Friday what activity will you do?"

The kids seem to enjoy it and I hope you do too!

did this as a demo class a couple of weeks back.

it covers some of the grammar stuff from their reading book as well as some material from their conversation book.

useful to have co-teech explain some of the grammar points here in korean (tenses and stuff, goes over their heads a little bit otherwise).

My Co-teacher and I came up with this lesson together so credit goes to her too.

The lesson runs over two classes (approx. an hour and 20 minutes)

Basically students get into groups of 3 or 4, read a short article about a famous place/landmark and then prepare a presentation for the class. The presentation is essentially a summary of the article they read. As homework students are required to find out additional interesting information about that place to include in their presentation.

Notes:
- This lesson is not meant to bring anything new or groundbreaking to teaching, its just an attempt to make a reading article more interesting and fun so you are more than welcome to change anything.
- Students don't produce anything new in the lesson, except for the additional research they do as homework.
- This lesson worked well for my first graders and I may even change it for my second graders too.
- Before the lesson ask students to bring dictionaries.
- I got all information off Wikipedia so please let me know of any inaccuracies.
- The presentation takes about 25-30 minutes so best you have something planned for the rest of the class.

I used this concept with my class this week, and they really seemed to have fun with it!  I modified it a bit, and also had them make a trip itinerery to go along with it.  Thanks for the idea!

Domestic Travel--
1. Go over vocab and popular Korean Festivals
2. Pairwork conversation questions
3. Groupwork: they must vote on their group's favorite destination in Korea and graph their results
4. Each group must give a presentation with their graph and reasons for picking those destinations (delicious regional cuisine, good attractions, etc)

I have been doing a few lessons on travel with my highschoolrs and my elementary classes. My high school is pretty low level and my elemntary is pretty high level (grade 5 and 6) so I have been able to use them and adjust a few things.

I got each student at the end to  write their own postcard.... and it worked awesomely. The format was: I want to go to ............ so I can see ........ and I can eat ............... Before you do this activity, brianstorm some countries on teh board and what you can see and eat there.

I also did a travel quizz with them and they LOVED it! This si in a Ppt and I asked questions like: what country is this, what is this country famous for....etc.
