Hello~

Here are all my materials for this lesson

Period 1 - Listening
  • Motivation - Summer Song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVhh0oATqBI
  • Intro PPT + worksheet
  • Circle Race game. I got the idea from another poster but added more pictures to the print out and made an explaination PPT. Print in color and use plastic sleeves and whiteboard markers.

Period 2 - Speaking
  • Motivation - Pass the ball (mario themed)
  • Snakes & ladders game. Used explaination PPT and game board posted by vicarious but added a review section before the game

Period 3 - Reading
  • Motivation - Airplane Scrambled Letters (posted earlier by Mr C)
  • Elimination Game - I have changed the rules of this game so that students play in teams instead of individually. Students play in groups of 4 and have 4 lives. More details on how to play are in the PPT. You can choose whether you include a rule to revive "out" teams or not

Period 4 - Reading
  • Motivation - Cowboy Speed Reading Game
  • Mario Telepathy Writing Game
Original version of the mario telepathy game can be found here:
http://www.waygook.org/index.php?topic=100971.0

Hope these help someone ^^

Hot seat game:

Students come up in groups of 4. One student stands in front of the screen while the others explain what the sentence is. When the student is correct, they switch out with another student. Fastest team to go through all 4 pictures is the winner. Before we played, I previewed some of the verbs and wrote them on the board: play, ride, join, eat, go, etc.

I added 10 seconds to their time if they spoke korean, and 30 seconds if they said any part of the answer.

With explanation, it kills 15-20 minutes.

Thanks to whoever made the original powerpoint.

Reading matching game.  Play it like concentration.  Match the characters behind the sentences.

This activity is the Mission Impossible Running dictations. My students loved this activity as it allowed them to run around the classroom while reading and writing.

Print out page 1 of the printouts, cut it into 4 parts (Lists A, B, C, D) and tape them to the walls of the classroom in different places.
Print out page 2 of the printouts, and tape it somewhere on a wall.
Print out page 3 and 4 of the printouts as double sided, and give one copy to each group (not each student).

The instructions are on the ppt. Every time you click on a number slide, the 3 stars timer automatically begin to unfurl (3 minutes).

Students can get up to 3 points for every response. 1 point for the correct picture and up to 2 points for a completely correct sentence (upper cases, lower cases, question marks, and periods).

If you have a higher level class, each group can change to writer for each round. My students were a bit lower level so the higher level students wrote while the lower level students ran to find the answers on the wall.

Complete lesson including lesson plan
Grade 5 Cheonjae 2 - I'll visit my grandparents 1 of 2

It is not common to say "what will you do this summer?"  We say "what are you doing this summer?" or "what are you going to do this summer?".  So I taught the children the English that we use, not the crap in the book.  This lesson is a "going to do" lesson.  Obviously I warned my co-teachers in advance and explained why I was doing what I was doing.  I think they appreciated that I actually gave sh*t, and were only too happy for me to go ahead.

I've been using the fabulous resources on waygook all year.  I've also been writing lesson plans all year to give to my co-teachers.  So I'm basically just going to upload all my lessons in their entirety for anyone else to use.  I'm sorry, I haven't sourced all the games and slides that I have used.  Some of them I've made myself, of course.  A million thanks to all users who must have spent hours putting together PPT bomb games etc.

Some of my lessons have been hugely successful, others much less so.  Hey, we're working with kids - second-guessing them is a mine field, right?!  They seem particularly to enjoy games with cards or dice.  Running dictations and Sleeping Elephants always go down well.

I taught two classes per lesson so my posts will be labelled (lesson title) 1 of 2 and (lesson title) 2 of 2.  I haven't edited anything since I used it.  Some of my lessons were over-planned ie there was too much for one class, so they have been carried over to subsequent classes.  Generally things should be pretty clear.  Feel free to PM me if you need any help with anything - but I will only be on waygook until 18 September 2024 when my subscription expires.

My co-teacher wanted me to do a lesson before summer vacation showing the students how we celebrate summer in the USA.  I used this PPT for all grades (3rd-6th), but thought it would fit the best with this lesson.

After the PPT, I then played a Mr. Bean summer video.  There's a cartoon that is about 10 minutes long, and great for 3rd and 4th graders.  Or you can play a live-action Mr Bean video that's about 3 minutes long for the 5th and 6th graders.  Mr. Bean is always a crowd-pleaser!

There was one day when I had the same 5th grade class two periods in a row.  So I made a bomb game using a Gangnam Style template I got from another Waygook user.  You'll have to download the sound clips as well in order for the music to play during the game.

1 - Bucket List walking dictation - students get the bucket lists without the text. Students then come to me and read the sentences. They then have to write the sentences with whoever's bucket list it matches.
2 - Cultural time - Information about countries
3 - Scrambled words motivation
