Lesson 10 - Period 5
I want to... Bucket List
This is my second year in a row doing this activity, and it is still one of my favorites (if not the). The fifth graders are into it, even my most difficult classes.
Motivation: scripted, or if teaching alone, list 3 things you want to do before you turn 100. One of mine was to live in another country. After listing my three things, I explained how I did 1 already (by coming to Korea).
My co-teacher created a PPT and a Dictionary (also attached). The PPT also has a picture reveal of a survey's top bucket list ideas. In addition to the Dictionary, I helped students translate their sentences (thanks Google translate).
At the end, you can create a game out of sharing our bucket lists, but I preferred last year's end activity: pass to your right (in groups or the whole class). When the students read the person's bucket list, they would write a comment on the back (such as you can do it!). We allowed writing in Korean so that they can communicate what they really wanted to and it was more meaningful that way.
I, personally, collected the bucket lists after each class so I can read them and leave comments. It's a great, humbling reminder that these kiddos do have dreams and goals, and are more than what they appear just in one English class. <3
Enjoy!
