I decided to read my students a simplified version of the giving tree as an addition to the reading section. Just read the black parts - your co-teach reads the green, and your students can read the red sentences.

Enjoy

My students know quite a bit of foods , so for a fun activity we played a reading speed game about food - each slide has a clue and they try to guess in 30 seconds. We played individually but you can adjust to teams. Here's the link to lesson details and free PPT download: http://mrsbaiasclassroom.blogspot.kr/2015/06/do-you-want-some-more-reading-hints-at.html

Do you want us to register at that site that badly?  Because that's the only way to download that ppt.

Game for StoryPot

I found the Deal or No Deal game and liked it, just didn’t like the ay it looked. Not my style. I had time so I started reworking it.

I'm not sure the Deal or No Deal reference has any meaning for the students, so I wanted to make the idea more understandable.

This is my first attempt at this game. There are no instructions yet, the sounds are useless, the flow is a bit off and the images need improving. It is usable, and as I post this, hopefully without bugs or outright mistakes. I'm testing it today with the stupid StoryPot chapter and will be noting anything that can be changed.

* Found a big bug. The boxes don't dissapear when you come back to the start slide. The amination should work, but doesnt. However, I found a way to work around it. In the mean time, write numbers on the board and erase or cross them out.

Here is a homework assignment I gave to my students to go along with the earlier part of the lesson. It uses some key words from the previous chapters too.

EDIT: Added a second homework assignment. This is heavy on writing and reading. They must unscramble the sentences and fix the errors in written sentences.

Here's a game you can download below and play with pencils and paperclips.

If you haven't played this kind of game before, students take turns flicking a paperclip. They read the phrase it lands on and mark that section. The first student to use all the phrases wins.

All phrases are from the text, except "May I borrow a crayon?" which is from a song on YouTube that I've posted below.

Enjoy!

You can use this for pretty much anything. Just change the words.

Each student has a role card and a point card. (Laminate the role card to use for other classes)
Students go around doing the dialogue with each other filing in the blank with their role card.  AFTER DOING THE DIALOGUE show the points to their partner. They will write it down on their point card.

Example Dialogue:
S1: May I take your order?
S2: Yes. May I have some ________?
S1: Sure. Here you are.
S2: It's delicious! It's ____________.  (or) It's too __________.

The "Blind Taste Test" is something my students go absolutely crazy for. Here's how I did it for this lesson:

1) Find a bunch of foods / drinks from home or the supermarket. I used ten. It's better to have mostly things they'll enjoy, and a few that they'll hate. Make a numbered list of what you've brought and don't let students see it. And keep the food/drinks hidden so students don't know what to expect.
2) Write the numbers 1-10 on the board (or however many different foods you've brought)
3) Ask for volunteers to take the test. Choose one, make him/her choose a number and then erase it. Blindfold the student. Say "Here you are" and feed him/her the food or drink that has the same number on your list as the one erased from the board. All students ask "How's the food/drink?" ("It's sweet/salty/delicious" etc) and "Do you want some more?" ("Yes, please/No, thanks". Feed them more for "Yes, please"). Repeat until time is up or all food/drinks have been consumed.

With ten foods, this activity lasts about 20 minutes including explanation.

Notes:
1) Students are likely to go crazy begging to be the volunteer. You can pick them in fun ways: "First student (to touch your nose / tell me you love me)" etc.
2) Ask students about allergies first if you're not sure.
3) Vinegar works pretty well as one of the booby prizes. Also decent: salt water, hot sauce (although it's hard to know how hot to make it. My students mostly like drinking Tabasco!). For the good prizes, fruit, juice, chocolate, soft drinks etc all work well. They're not hard to please.
4) Tell the students to keep the food secret. It's more fun if the volunteer doesn't know what they're drinking. You can also make them guess what it was.

Thanks for this. My kids loved it. I've done similar food related activities in the past, but this is the best structured one I've seen.

I did the same layout, but chose 2 students randomly (by their numbers using ping pong balls). I also made an accompanying PPT where the 2 randomly selected students had to choose 2 numbers, so the food would be random.

I made a worksheet to go along with it. For the first three boxes, I had the students bring in their own food, so they went around asking three of their friends, "May I try some ______?" -> "Yes, you may."/"No, you may not." -> "How is it?" -> "It's _____."

The last two spaces on the worksheet are for the blind taste testing foods. Got some hilarious reactions. I did feel sorry for the two girls that chose Siracha sauce and Balsamic Vinegar. But "that's the way the cookie crumbles" XD.

I am not going to take credit for the ppt templates I used here for this chapter. I got it from the awesome guest speaker the GOE workshop had once upon a time...

Kor/Eng translations for students to practice comprehension. Good if you don't have a Korean coteacher. Story 1, 2, and Story Pot.

Update for 2018
This year, I drew a really long line to the mother on the board. If the team gets the answer right on the first try, they get 3 steps, if it's the try, 2 steps, third or more try is 1 step. So if the yellow team starts the game and they guess correctly, on the first try, they get 3 steps. If they don't, it moves to the orange team. If they get it right, they get 2 steps (because it's the second try) and so on. We play a few rounds so they understand, then we play a bonus round until the end of class. The bonus round is the same as before (first guess is 3 steps, second guess is 2 steps, etc.) but they get bonus steps for the correct answer. If the answer is one of the food cards, 1 extra step, drink cards, 2 extra steps, and restroom is 3 extra steps. If the mother has bathroom and a team guesses it correctly on the first try, they get 6 steps!

This has worked much better than last year. I attached a PPT that has the  bonus round and practicing the expressions before you start the game (I just took the slides from another PPT that is posted on here, so thanks to the creator of that PPT.).

                                                        ***********

I haven't done this lesson yet, but I am going to post it anyway.

I really wanted to play "Mother, May I? ..." for this lesson, but my classes are too big.

(If you want to play "Mother, May I? ...", you can find the rules here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Play-%22Mother-May-I%22)

I adapted it to fit my class size. My classes are six rows of students that are in three columns (two rows in each column), so I am going to have three teams (my class will be Yellow team, Red team and Orange team). One student will be randomly chosen to be the mother. I will give each team one Mother, May I... document. One student will look at it, choose one, and ask the mother the question. The mother will choose a card from the Mother card document (these need to be cut and I am putting them in a bag and the mother will pick one out of the bag).

If the student gets it wrong, the mother will say, "No, you may not," or "Sorry, you can't," (depending on the card). Then, the next team will get a chance to ask, and so on.

If the student gets the question right, the mother will say, "Yes, you may," or "Sure, here you are," or "Help yourself,"(depending on the card). Then, the mother will go back to their team and the student who got the question right will become the mother, and so on.

On the board, I will put a photo of an angry mother (from the Angry Mother drama haha!). I am going to put three lines on the board next to angry mother. Each line will have a colored magnet; yellow, orange, and red, one for each team. When the team gets the question right, I will move their magnet closer to the mother. The team who is closest to the mother at the end of the game is the winner! That is my adaptation from the original game, instead of students taking real steps toward the mother, the magnet will do it on the board.

I have no idea how it will go yet, I will post an update after we play tomorrow.

I am playing this for period 2. I have to thank jblant01 because I used their scans from their 5-5-2 PPT to make this game and I couldn't have made the game without the scans. Thank you jblant01!

Update I have done the lesson a few times, it is going well and the students like the game. The only issues I had were, for the first class, I drew lines with four big steps to the mother on the board. One team made it there quickly! So, I drew a longer line with more steps for the other classes.

The biggest issue was the mother showing the card to the students. It wasn't on purpose, they are excited to be the mother and don't pay attention to the card (they were doing things like fanning themselves with it).

During the second class, some students in the front claimed they could see what was on the card, even though I glued to another piece of paper to avoid that.

We solved all of this by putting the card on a clip board and telling the students to keep it close to their body.

In conclusion, I am happy with how the lesson turned out. The students think it is exciting and they are speaking!

Enjoy!
