A writing directions activity. I stole this idea from someone else (the Kakao talk thing) but I cannot for the life of me find the original post now....., I added a map on the side and then the small buildings according to the KT question. I will use this for a writing class and get the kids to pair and share. If it goes well I might get them to do two rounds (each map/slide is different).

A couple activities I edited for this lesson.  I don't know the original poster for the Sudoku.

The telepathy template was previously posted by lovebunny in the grade 5 review thread.

I made the map activity for a similar grade 5 lesson and they loved it.  Maybe it can be helpful for someone for this grade 6 lesson.

~Cheers~

The word sudoku has one of the clues change between the b/w copy and the b/w answer copy. Block becomes Behind.

Thanks Gasian, I added 2 more slides and made it individual work writing, then speaking with partner.

For GRADE 6, LESSON 6, pair/group work

First each person in groups of 4 gets a different sheet and fills out DIRECTIONS.

Second, he practices his dialogue with his partner. Then they switch as each one has a different paper. If time, they can do the dialogue with the partner behind them too, as they also have a different dialogue.

Third, partners come up and present their dialogue and we can show it on the screen so people can see the directions.

I wrote another song for grade 6, lesson 6. It's the same song as the grade 5 lesson "where's the museum?"; I just changed it a little bit.

So if you are a keyboard or guitar player, you could have fun with this song and help them learn the words and phrases.

The intro I found on another thread and edited a bit.
I will use the Find the Monkeys as a prepositions refresher.

Pretty good song for this lesson. Accents are a little different to what the kids might have heard before, but it doesn't hurt to expose them to new things!

Motivation videos. 2 Just for Laughs Gags (ugh, for me, but they enjoyed them).

My intro ppt to go over the vocab.

Some activities edited from old Grade 5 threads from when those books had lessons on directions.

Save the Princess! game. Students need to volunteer to give directions. Some of my classes were more shy towards giving directions.

Blind Maze game. I'm going to print a dot grid on some scrap paper (last slide) to help them draw their mazes.

Treasure Hunt - Period 5 or 6
« Reply #18 on: June 02, 2015, 06:51:48 PM »
TREASURE HUNT

There are 3 teams in my class - if you have a bigger class, you may need to adjust the materials for your class.

Notes:
* Install the font attached for improved formatting. If you don't know how to install fonts, Google it.  ;D
* Each Team had a Team Map which we clipped to a notice board (attached PPT).
* Teams completed mini-activities at each station and gained a stamp (for the Team Map page) and also a Clue containing instructions on how to reach the next station.
* Once all 6 activities were completed, students returned to the English classroom and were rewarded with treasure after lunch (ice-cream, cos it's hot AF this week).
* Teams need just 1 smartphone each to take a photo at Station 6.
* The Word File attached has most of the clues and activites that you'll need to edit and then print out and cut up and assemble into little envelopes and then label. It's a pain, but it's worth it and my students really had fun!

I created 6 stations for the students to visit across the school.  - the directional clues in the attached .doc file is specific to my school, so you'll need to change that to suit your own school layout.

Here are some notes on each station, you may wish to change this to suit your own teaching style. Use any variety of mini activities to get students using the target language. Also ask your co-workers (library, admin staff) to help and explain to them beforehand what'll happen at their station.

Station 1: English Classroom
 - We have speed stacks in our classroom already. Each team practiced a speed stacks pattern, saying 'left' or 'right' as they grabbed the relevant cups and timed their performance.
- The fastest team was awarded Clue No. 1 first and set off from the classroom to find Station No.2. Once they had gone out of sight, Team 2 and Team 3 followed.
- All teams received an English stamp on their Team Maps before they left.

Station 2: Computer Room
- Roleplays for each Team were ready and printed in envelopes for collection
- Each team assigned a speaking role, and practiced speaking together.
- When they were ready, they called the teacher and performed the roleplay. If they made a mistake, they had to practice again and another team who were ready could perform.
- First team to finish their roleplay received a STAMP & Clue No. 2 and left.
- Note: Doc attached only has 3 roleplays, you may need to reuse or else write another rolepaly for your class. No apologies for the gamjatang love!  :-*

Station 3: WEE Classroom
- The school counselor distributed envelopes with activity 3 when they arrived at WEE Classroom.
- Students had to write 5 Things for three different categories.
- The first team to finish correctly received a STAMP & Clue No. 3 from the counselor and continued the game.

Station 4: Admin Office
- Our Admin Lady distributed envelopes with activity 4 - 'Correct the Sentence'.
- Students had to add Capital Letters, punctuation etc. and write down the correct sentence.
- Once verified, students received (you guessed it) a STAMP & Clue No. 4.

Station 5: School Library
- The school librarian gave each Team their envelope - they had to re-arrange the title of a book (I cut up the book title + threw the word tiles in the envelope).
- Once arranged, the students had to search & find the book on the shelves and find Clue No. 5 inside.
- Stamped before leaving.

Station 6: Upstairs Random Drum Equipment Area
- Students had to find their individual envelope hidden among the strewn mess that is The Third Floor Of My School.
- Each team had to take a photo of themselves pretending to play the drums. This was my laziest activity as I ran out of time to plan a better one. Sorry (not sorry).
- Photos verified, Stamps received, returned to the English classroom to finish the period singing along to 'Bruno Mars - Treasure': https://youtu.be/nPvuNsRccVw?t=6s (note: explicit language in the first 6 seconds)
