Key words and expressions worksheet. Some book recommended worksheets. Intro PPT has a RPS game (I printed off the book recommended playzone 1 and laminated the cards)

We combined the 2nd and 3rd session. Practice for Play and Act Out. Honestly, double check this. I'm not entirely sure which advice cards go with which symptom cards according to the book's logic.

I made a RPS paper game for speaking practice.

6-6-4 and Runner and Writer Game.

6-6-5 and Blazing Pens game.

6-6-6

6-6-7. I made a RPS game using the sentence cards on pages 323 and 325.

***EDIT*** Runner and Writer is like Running Dictation. I apologize for not explaining. We have 6 groups of 4 to students. We alter the rules depending on how well our students are picking up the lesson. If they're not doing well throughout the previous sections, this is a team (4 person) game. There is 1 runner, 1 writer and 2 checkers. If they're doing well it's a pair game. I place the 6 sheets in the hallway in various positions (upside down, sideways, right side up, etc) and in no particular order. Each team or pair chooses a number (1 - 6) and write it on their answer sheet BEFORE they see the sheets' positions.

Students are told that there is a point system. Punctuation and spelling matter. Say there are 10 questions. If a team has all 10 sentences written, but the 1st sentence has an error, then they are given 0 points. A second team has only 5 sentences. Sentence #4 has an error, they are granted 3 points. So the 2nd team wins. We did this to ensure that all teams are paying attention. Some of our best students write so quickly but don't double check, so the other students are given more of a chance. They really enjoy playing this way, as it has really given the lower level students a better chance at winning.

The runner and writer can switch if they are tired or just feel like switching.

Connect 4 game! Cheers to the original creator of this game. I tweaked it to suit this lesson.

2 teams- red vs yellow.

-Each team gets a chance to say an expression and a number.
-Click on that circle and then depending on their team color, click yellow or red.
- They have to make a line of 4 to get a point.

Reading game: What's behind the word MARIO game!

Click on each word as students read it. There are points behind each word.

(Thanks to the original creator of this awesome template. I added vocabulary and sentences of this lesson.)

I used this board game with another one of my schools which uses another book and found it on that books' thread and it went really well! So for this book I just switched out fever with toothache and I added practice slides. Thanks to the original creator!

Worksheet, used after Story 2 *part 3*.

Answer to the puzzle on page 1 is :"Let's go and see a doctor"
The answer to the 'fallen letters' puzzle on page 2 is:
"You should drink lots of water and eat fruit every day to stay healthy."  (I'm aware that is a  long sentence for grade 6ers, but it needed to be to make the puzzle generator work.  Anyhow, it's really two sentences, connected with that useful word 'and')

I have been using this video to open the class.  At first I thought it might be a bit too immature for them because the characters are babies, and we used this in the 4th grade classes (after the speaking test to fill time)....but so far every class has thought it is funny!

Here is a reading game that the students can play with their partner.

I am not the OP but I was wondering the same question. What I am going to do is have 6 teams. There are six Word pages. I will have the 6-pages up front, probably taped on the board. Each team will send one student up to read the sentence. He/She will go back to their group without the paper and repeat the sentence. Another student from the group will wrote the sentence. First team to finish=Winner. I am going to have them rotate writers and runners after 3 sentences.

My 6th graders are pretty far behind in the textbook, so we're only on lesson 6.
But anyway, using a Batman Bomb Game template I found in the games section, I created a bomb game to review the chapter.
Hope you find it useful! ;D

PPT with some additional illnesses to add on for period 2: Fever and Cold. Also the phrase 'What's the matter?'

Gap fill lyrics to go with the below video. I will use this to replace the awful chant, chant section.

I did this game for period 1 but it can really be used for story 1 or story 2...or wherever you see fit.
It's called the "I have a Virus Game." Creative, I know. Feel free to change the title if you want.
I don't know where the original ppt came from. I was given the PPT from my co-teacher from and for a different class but I adapted the game to fit this chapter since it's about getting sick and stuff.

Directions are in the PPT.
Pretty much, RPS, Say dialogue and respond base on what card you have, virus spreads only if virus card holder wins RPS (or those who have been infected). at the end, the Survivors win but if all are infected original virus people wins. You can somehow add a doctor character too, but I thought that would just complicate things since some of my students are pretty low leveled. Instead of just the boy and girl image, you can change it to fit the vocab of "headache, toothache etc.." I just chose to use them as humans and the students can choose whichever vocab they wanted.

It was fun and they enjoyed it (at least that's what I think). they get to "play a game" and move instead of just sit at their desk being quiet all the time.

feel free to ask any questions, or adjust whatever you feel fit.
