I used to love doing logic puzzles when I was younger.
I thought this may be something to appeal to my mathematically inclined students.
I haven't tried it yet. I know the students will be overwhelmed, but I think they should be able to do it.
I welcome any critiques!

My coT used these flashcards from Booglesworld the lesson before mine, so I found it, downloaded the vocabulary sheet motified it and made a bingo came with it.

I also decided to download and share the rest of the materials from Booglesworld, even though I am not using them this time. The first document is the bingo game I motified, the motified vocabulary sheet and attached bingo sheet.

The rest are from Booglesworld. They also have a bingo game that can be downloaded. You open a tab and a card appears, then you refresh the tab and and a new card appears.

I did this game for period 1 but it can really be used for story 1 or story 2...or wherever you see fit.
It's called the "I have a Virus Game." Creative, I know. Feel free to change the title if you want.
I don't know where the original ppt came from. I was given the PPT from my co-teacher from and for a different class but I adapted the game to fit this chapter since it's about getting sick and stuff.

Directions are in the PPT.
Pretty much, RPS, Say dialogue and respond base on what card you have, virus spreads only if virus card holder wins RPS (or those who have been infected). at the end, the Survivors win but if all are infected original virus people wins. You can somehow add a doctor character too, but I thought that would just complicate things since some of my students are pretty low leveled. Instead of just the boy and girl image, you can change it to fit the vocab of "headache, toothache etc.." I just chose to use them as humans and the students can choose whichever vocab they wanted.

It was fun and they enjoyed it (at least that's what I think). they get to "play a game" and move instead of just sit at their desk being quiet all the time.

feel free to ask any questions, or adjust whatever you feel fit.

My kids are really low level, so I took this game and adjusted it to make it much simpler!
At first I tried the original version, but I improvised on the spot.
If your students are low level like mine, they understood this simpler version better.
I used the cards klx001 created, but edited and changed the rules in the PPT~

Here is a more anatomical approach to an 'illness / injury' lesson intro.

As with a few other 'every single book has a near-identical lesson' lessons, I felt the standard introductions that I've seen recycled and used (by both NT's and KT's, alike) was in need of a significant visual upgrade.

Whether I've managed to do that with all these transparency-enabled PNGs and shiny text bevels is another matter, entirely... but I tried!

This covers the textbook ailments, as well as a few more common expressions.  I hope your kids aren't too creeped out by the transparent purple/blue Skeletor-like model I used.

We used the A to Z of Diseases song as an intro to the unit. It's a hit or miss depending on the class. :P

Here's a version of my Speed Writer game for this lesson.

I tweaked the audio a bit as newer versions of PPT have functional volume levels for sound clips, and all of mine had inadvertently been set very low.  The music and sounds should be audible on PPT 2010 and 2013, but I'll have to see tomorrow if that screwed anything up for 2007.

Super simple game. Write out a bunch of post it notes with the 5 key expressions on.
Each student gets a post it note on their forehead and has to guess what the sentence is. If they guess right they respond 'you should go and see a doctor' and if they are incorrect 'that's too bad.' When the student guesses the sentence correctly, they come and get a new one. The winner is the person who guesses the most sentences.

Student A: What's the matter?
Student B: I have a headache (?)
Student A: That's too bad.
[Moves to next student]

Student C: What's the matter?
Student B: I stomachache.
Student C: You should go and see a doctor.
[Student B comes to teacher to get a new post it]

Takes hardly any prep, just write out a pad of post it notes. But its super effective.

Also a blazing pens game, i stole from someone else. Just changed it slightly and made it look nicer :P

I took the bones of another ppt from a different textbook I liked on here and made some big visual enhancements and changed it to suit this textbook. It came out pretty nice I think.

Then I took a Cookie Monster rps board game I made for a different textbook (I work at multiple schools) and modified it. Using the Cookie Run template is so easy to just change the text to get students practicing the phrases.

I highly suggest doing 2 v 2, giving each team their own board (so they don't have to read upside down.) Other than that, the instructions are included.

Thanks to MelanieMB who posted this line bingo game in the Cheonjae 6th grade book thread.
Made minor edits. I have 24 students in most classes so doubled the line bingo sheets and changed them around a bit.
Edit: There are 14 line bingo strips on each attached word doc
