Changed Kings Cup to "King's Circle" Speaking Game
« on: June 10, 2015, 06:19:11 PM »
I recently played Kings Cup and was reminded of how fun it was, so I thought of a way to adapt it into class and made it a conversation game.  My kids had such a great time, I thought I'd share.  Feel free to change the rules to accomodate your kids or however way you're familiar with playing this game.

You will need a deck of cards and the rules sheet.

I started the class by asking the students to give me 15-20 English words that I wrote on the board.  After I wrote them down, I explained to them that each card has a role and went through the role of each one. We practiced the rhymes, categories, making a rule, thumb master and questions so they can be familiar with it.  There are too many cards for them to remember every single rule, so I told them that the only ones they need to remember are the Ace card (where everyone must stand) and the 7 card (where they put both of their arms up). Everything else, we can refer to the rule sheet as we go. Rather than the penalty be drinking, the kids were to form a sentence using least one word that I wrote on the board.

My high school is fairly small, 7-12 kids in  each class, so it was really easy to play with them. I've never played this game with more than 15 people, so not sure how successful it will be.  There are so many variations of this game, but here are the rules for those of you who aren't familiar with it:

Played this game in 4 classes and I didn't finish the game in any of them, but my students said some hilarious sentences and made some crazy rules. Hope you guys have as much fun with your students as I did.

Enjoy!

It goes back to the person who drew the card last. They have to form a sentence.

You're welcome! I'm glad someone else was able to do it with their kids.
