IT'S THE NEWLYWED HOT SEAT GAME!
« on: June 15, 2015, 03:36:53 PM »
How the Game is Played:

(1) Break the students up into groups.

(2) Have one member of the group come to the front of the class with a white board and marker, or some piece of paper with a pen.

(3) Reveal question from the slide.

(4) Have the chosen member who is at the front of the class write his or her answer down without revealing it to the other students.

(5) Have that person's team, with their own white board or piece of paper and pen in possession, write what they think the chosen member in the front of the class will write for her own response.

(6)
If there's a match, a point will be given to the team. If not, they get no points.

Play for candy, play for hugs... it's your world, you can do what you want with it.

Enjoy!

You're welcome. I just tried this out with my first graders in high school and they enjoyed it a lot.

Let me know how it goes for you.

This sounds like a great game for summer camp. I think I'll use this as an ice breaker.

I tried this out today and there was some confusion with the first slide that features the actors; more specifically, students weren't sure if they should select from among the actors whose pictures are featured in the slide (Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, etc. etc.) or if they should choose their own actors.

Also, they weren't sure if they should write the names of the actors in Korean or in English. I just said "do the best that you can."

It's just something to be cognizant of.

I tried this out with my middle schoolers today. It was clear to me by the first round that the students weren't going to understand the words in the original file that i posted here without the help of the co-teacher translating nearly every word. This was the case for both first and second graders.

So if you're going to try this game out on middle schoolers, I would advise reducing the wording on the slides to the core meaning.

So, for example, in one of the slides it asks you for your favorite flavor of ice cream. I would change the slide to say something like "Favorite ice cream," and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just my two cents.

Hi,

I really like your game, however, I want to change the pictures and also the questions but I can't.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you fix it?

Hi Natmossy!

Thanks for the feedback!

I locked it from people editing, but there's an easy way around that.

(1) Ctrl + N (Make a new PPT file)

(2) Right click and copy NEWLYWED slides

(3) Paste into the new file to transfer the slides.

This will transfer all but the template to the new file. You can then edit the PPT any way you want. If you want to retain the original design, just save the template to your computer and then add it to the library on your new file and apply it to the slides.

Hope this helps!

It seems like it would be really fun to play. I'm just curious why you locked it?

Thank you for taking the time to reply, but the slides don't transfer over well, and the timer looks off. :(

Hello Natmossy,

Thanks for the reply. A little trade secret is that if you lock the PPT, you're actually reducing the download time that it takes. In other words, all of that extra functionality of the PPT program is stripped and the user is left only with the bare minimal to run the file. That's what I wanted because my PPTs are usually ginormous--as are many other people's on this message board-- and I wanted a file that people could quickly access and store onto their USB in the event of an emergency (e.g. no lesson planned for the day, etc. etc.).

But hey, rather than belabor the point further, download the PPT here that contains better-designed timers. This is where I got my timers from. You can paste the timer across multiple slides by selecting all of the slides and then pressing CTLR + V (Click here for video demonstration).  Should help.

Hi,

Thanks for responding. :)

I'm really sorry, but I don't get it. It's a bit too technical for me and all I want to do is change the pictures of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman to GD and IU, ;)

I've found that with most of the PPT's I download from this site I'm able to change the wording and pictures with my own.

Sorry again, good game but it's too hard for me to figure out right now.

Hey!

Cool game! I ran a similar one a couple of weeks ago with my students. Wish I'd  see this one first. I did a more low-fi version.

First I gave each student a worksheet. I then explained that they needed to pick one person in the class and ask them the questions on the sheet. I explained that they had to change the way the questions were worded so they made sense. Once they were finished they had to return to their seats.

For the next step in the game I then picked students by using a random number generator to choose student numbers. The student would have to come to the front and sit on a chair in front of the class. Then one class member would draw a question from "the hat" and ask it to the student on the chair. The student on the chair would write their answer on their white board and hide it. The groups would all then write what they thought the student on the chair would say. If they were right they get a point.

I added in extra questions into 'the hat' to give it more of an element of chance and also fun. I used the worksheets to make them ALL have to speak some English.

You're welcome!

I'd switch your questions for mine. Especially the Father and Mother's name questions. Turns out Korean children just don't know their friends parents names. They did find the question HILARIOUS though.
