Still waiting for moderators to open this thread..... Here are a couple new games - Avengers modified from BrittanyB's game on another thread and a sleeping elephants game modified from Tammy Warrens post on a similar thread.

Made a ton of stuff.

Enjoy.

Umm, except you didn't actually make that stuff (at least not the 'Make a Sentence' PPT that I made last year and uploaded, which you didn't even change to fit this lesson).

I usually wouldn't say anything but you actually made a point to say you 'made' it, so...

Adapted two games to fit this lesson.

First is a code game.
Have the students write 1. __ __ __ __ __ in their books, then call out 5 of the sentences from the game. (The zero is there for a sentence that doesn't match any of the pictures)
After they write down the numbers that match the sentences you called out, check their answers on the next slide.

I changed the pictures to match the books in period 1.

Second game is a simple revealing game with boxes covering up a picture. The students have to guess the sentence based on the picture.

1) Practice PPT for period 1.

2) Brand new baseball game that I designed for this lesson. This activity is designed for the first period (listening).

The premise is pretty simple: depending on how many groups there are, click the circles with the colours that correspond to the group numbers. Have them start at home base--so click all the circles for the groups.

Give each group one set of cards. Take turns with the students choosing cards. Each group can choose 4 cards. After they have chosen them, have the students hold up their cards. Then, choose 4 cards out of a bag. Have students ask altogether: "What are you going to do?" And then answer according to the cards you've chosen (using complete sentences). After doing this a couple of times, have students volunteer to come to the front and pick the cards.

Here's how the system works: if one group gets one card matching, they can move up one base. Two matching, two bases. Three matching, three spaces. Four matching, four spaces. So for example, if group 2 gets 3 matching cards when they're on third base, give them a point and move them up to second base. (This keeps the pace fast and fair--there would be riots if they got 4 matching cards when they were on third base, only to be allowed to hit home and get just 1 point!)

To move the groups around the board, simply click their baseball to have it disappear, then click the corresponding colour on the base they belong to re-appear. Very simple once you play with it for a minute or two.

Finally: every 3 rounds, there have a special event (click the "Event!" baseball in the middle of the diamond). A volunteer can pick a picture by answering the question. Then, all group members must choose to stand up or sit down. Give them a count down (5-4-3-2-1) and then have them ask and answer "I'm going to _____" according to their position, then check. There will be some fun event like "Steal one base" or "Home run" or "OUT" depending on whether they stand up or sit down.

You'll need about 20 mins to play this game thoroughly.

If any of what I've just typed seems confusing, just load up the PPT and it should become pretty clear. Have fun!

I've updated a worksheet that I've previously downloaded from Waygook- Thank you to the original poster!

Contains:
Vocab, Key Expressions, Look & Say, Unscramble the Words, Break the Code, Fill-in the blanks

For the 3rd page~ containing match the sentence & Word Search. I was going to hand this out at a different time perhaps to go along with Section 4 or 5 of the chapter.

I hope this is helpful! Enjoy your Summer break~

... Give each group one set of cards...

This Baseball game is such a great game! Thank you! I changed the pictures in the PPT to use the cards from the back of the book. Before the game, I will have students write the sentence on the card, and then pull them out. Because there is a blank one, they will think of their own sentence. For the purpose of this game, that card will count as a match. (ie watch t.v. and eat a snack will be counted as the same because they are both "blank" cards.

I think my students will really like this. I can't wait to use it in class!

credits go to origional posters - just tinkered with a few things on the matching game to add an intro as the language doesnt mnatch exactly and made a couple of games myself (battleship game which can be an extention to using the cards from the book if the first game is too fast) and picture reveal game that leads into playing line bingo with 6 or 7 sentences on screen for kids to copy...line bingo is a good time fill for any lesson and kids seem to like it
this could all probably be useless but see if you like any of it :)

Great baseball game, thank you for that!

Here's a partner listen and reading game of which the idea I got from here and made to fit the chapter. Each set of partners gets a copy and each student should have a different colored pen as their partner. Teacher calls out one sentence/phrase from the page and they race to circle the said word(s) fastest. There are three of each. Total up how many circles each had at the end of the game to determine the winner.

Made this based off of someone else's idea.. all students choose one block from each column, three total, to make a sentence and write it down. After everyone has written and is ready they all stand up. Slowly as the blocks are eliminated if they chose that eliminated block they must sit down. Last person standing gets a reward.

Running dictation game here. Slide 1- print and cut out each sentence then tape them to the wall around the room. Slide 3- print, copy, and give a half sheet to each student. Slide 2- show on the TV/screen during the game. After the teams complete all the sentences on their paper they follow the alphabet on the screen, corresponding to their papers, to figure out a short dialogue. Fastest team to finish and solve the secret dialogue wins

Basic kimchi reading game. For those that don't know, all kids stand up. Go around the class having one student read one word. After the last word is read the following student says "kimchi" then the student after that is out and must sit down. Last student standing is the winner. My kids enjoy it but I usually just save it for when I need an end-of-the-class ten minute filler game.

Hi all,

Made a clap game but different actions and PPT - I call it 'action reading'. But big thanks to original brain who came up with the idea... back in the 80s or something?? lol... I remember playing it in primary school! Such an oldie but a goodie.

Anyhoo, see the ppt and download it (free) here: http://mrsbaiasclassroom.blogspot.kr/2015/08/action-reading-esl-game.html

Ninja reading powerpoint attached, from another waygook poster, but I have made it suit this lesson. put students in teams, one city name per team. Then click the colored arrows for the colored sentence each team chooses. (they can choose the same sentence). The city icon will float over to the chosen question once you click the arrow. (arrow and sentence correspond, see color). When all have chosen a sentence and have their city icons floating a top their choices, then push the "send the ninjas" button/scroll. The ninjas will reveal themselves, if the ninja goes to the same sentence as the team , they get a point.

Happy Teaching! ;D

I changed the Speak and Play a little bit in the book to make it more clear and get more speaking practice in. Instructions attached and the cards too (which are in the book).
