New York Lesson w/ PPT & Worksheet
« on: September 13, 2015, 09:58:40 PM »
Hey all,

So I found this excellent PPT and worksheet a bit buried, made a few changes to them both, and wanted to post it here. This is a lesson on New York City. It has some excellent pictures and information, and as many Koreans love New York City it should be a hit. It also includes the "New York, New York" song by Sinatra with a lyrics fill-in activity. The changes that I made were adding a few slides, deleting a few non-relevant slides, and correcting the lyrics. Please use the version of the song from the Frank Sinatra Nothing but the Best Remastered collection (2008) to ensure that the lyrics match up. You can find that version on Google Play Music.

The worksheet has some excellent activities as well. This lesson may very well take more than one class period, due to the number of slides and activities. Credit goes to waygook member duchessrachel for creating the original PPT and worksheet. She did excellent work! Hope this is helpful!

Yes good one! Most Koreans are fascinated by USA and New York.

Just note that the slide on the ESB being the tallest building is incorrect:

"As of 2013, One World Trade Center, also referred by the symbolic name of "Freedom Tower", in New York City was proclaimed to be the tallest skyscraper in The United States"

I was about to upload a NY ppt and game then I saw this. Well, I'm uploading it here anyways. Combined with what you uploaded cliff these might make a heck of an NY lesson. I did a ppt and made a fairly easy game, they are supposed to be used for the same 45 minute period. I put in something about a booze cruise, you might want to change that if your CT is uptight.

Really like the PPT, sonofthedude, great pictures and information. When March rolls around I'll have brand new students and at that time I think I'll do the New York Lesson again, incorporating quite a few of the things in your PPT. I realize there's quite a few famous NYC places that I didn't cover in my own PPT, like Wall Street.

The game looks excellent! That's a great Mario template- one of the few templates I've seen in which the point scoring system works well and doesn't constantly to reset zero after selecting a question. I'll definitely make use of that template in another lesson down the road.

Fascinating lesson about New York! I may use it. But it is already giving me some great ideas for how to prepare a lesson I want to do about London. I am obviously going to omit booze cruises! My co-teacher or may not be may be uptight. But I won't take the risk.
With London I can include stuff about the royal Family, the Queen, and so on, sights such as the London Eye, Big Ben, Madame Tusauds (waxworks) the zoo, famous London characters and so on.
