Buildings
« on: September 24, 2015, 07:21:24 PM »
Hi, here's a lesson about buildings.

Students learn how to describe buildings from the main PPT. Then there's a simple worksheet, and a writing activity in which they should describe their dream house.

There's also a game at the end. Separate the students into 2+ teams, and have them choose a number. Then the teams have to describe the building the number links to as well as they can- 1 point for each correct detail. The pale red circle in the top right corner links back to the main numbers screen.

And there's also a wordsearch for the students to do if there's any time at the end.

Thx

This was definitely one of the better lessons on Waygook and for that I thank you.

It must be said it is almost a ridiculous topic to teach, but it went down well.I added some pics of Minecraft buildings to motivate my kids in the beginning and changed the worksheet to make it less printer intensive. I also added a sleeping elephants game which I didn't use, just in case we had time.

This lesson perhaps went over so well because it was the perfect lesson to stress "FULL SENTENCES" that coupled with the fact I used candy to make sure the sentences were full.

Sentences like: "It has a____ or it has many_____." etc

I just want to say thanks so much!

I have attached my altered version.

Thanks for the lesson! It can be a struggle sometimes to come up with interesting topics and to try and find a way to fit that topic into 45 minutes but this looks great! I like the minecraft pictures- that should keep their interest. I may actually do the sleeping elephants activity in the middle of the lesson, and have them finish up with the worksheet at the end. Thanks again!

Great Stuff!

Any chance there is a lesson plan for this?

Sorry kicker_qb01, but I didn't make a lesson plan for this lesson.
Many thanks for the feedback, guys.

This presentation is brilliant. I've been struggling for decent topics for my high school kids and this will come in handy to break the mould from the usual stuff. I'm gonna focus quite a bit on the dream house idea to get them thinking and talking. Cheers.

Oh my god this lesson is incredible. Who would have thought that such a drab topic like buildings could be re-branded into such an adventure?

Thank you so much, Erlend!!
I created a small web course for newbie teachers on Udemy here.

Hello thank you so much for the brilliant lesson plan!  I was wondering if you could repost that Worksheet.pub file in a different format by any chance?  For some reason I can't open it :(

Thanks, this actually quite interesting! I added two extra slides for the differences between British and American English at then end of the section about floors (In British English it goes ground floor, first floor, second floor etc). Rather than upload the whole file again I'm just uploading the two slides. I also converted the Publisher file to pdf for those without Publisher. Thanks again!
