K-POP or A-POP game
« on: November 09, 2015, 03:40:18 PM »
So, this is a game I made for my summer camp that I've been meaning to share. And since the year is winding to a close, I figured some of you (like me) are searching for games and fillers. Well, search no more!

This game requires no prep besides having your class split into teams and giving each a whiteboard. The premise is simple. Each slide shows a selection of lyrics. The students have to guess if it's K-Pop or A-Pop. I award extra points if they know the artist or song title. The K-Pop songs are all English covers and they should be songs that your students know. I also tried to pick songs that didn't stray too far from the literal translations.

There's an extra activity too, if you wanna do this in a conversation class or sometime when your students can use their phones to help with translation.

I can't thank you enough for this game. I teach at an all-girls middle school and my girls loved it. They went wild and were 100% engaged. I should mention we played this after finals so I thought they would have decreasing motivation to participate in anything learning related. They were all speaking and participating, even ones who usually could care less. Thanks again, I hope I can contribute something just as nice.

Yes, thank you thank you thank you!  ;D

My after-school class was just 3 middle school girls today, and this was perfect for the last 25-30 minutes of our two-period lesson. We just did the guessing game part. If I'd had them do the translation activity, it could've filled an entire 45-minute period. They loved it, and I loved seeing how excited they were when they recognized the lyrics.

I'm glad to hear it's gone over so well with everyone's students! I had a bunch of classes cancelled this week for festival practice, so with all that free time I decided to make another.

K-POP or A-POP 2 has been added to the first post. ;D

Awesome!! Thank you sooooo much!  ;D I have to add that this is one of the few games I've downloaded that was ready to use immediately, without me making any changes or edits.

This is really great, thank you! I'm hoping to do a lesson on music genres coming up, and I was struggling to think of an activity for the "practice" part of the lesson. This should be perfect for that. Thank you!

This has been going over really well with my students. We play it with white boards in groups.

Thanks!

Thank you so much! I played it with all my schools (I have four) and all of them went insane with this, especially my all girls school. My kids have finals coming up this week and the next week so I wanted to make another game but I saw that you created a part 2! Thank you so much.

I teach at an all girls middle school and they all loved this game. We finished a movie they have been watching and then played this game. It was a great filler. Thanks!

Just wanted to say thanks! This is a great game and my kids loved it! I got a lot of Kimodee from my boy students when the American girls were shown. Haha. Excellent idea and thanks again for sharing!

This game is amazing. I love kpop but I teach at two all boys schools and they aren't so into kpop as the girls are. But this game was a hit EVEN WITH MY THIRD GRADE BOYS. They loved it so much!! Thank you for making a 2nd version - I haven't checked it out yet, but I know it will be amazing!

Thanks for the game, but many of the reviews here are like something from an infomercial!

Before K-POP or A-POP my classes were boring and stagnate; I had trouble sleeping at night and my marriage was failing. NOW after weeks of using this product, my life is on track! Kids are engaged and my wife loves me again. Thanks for such a great game!

IRL: this is a fun game and it is interesting to see the students figure out the tunes and words in their heads as they mumble sing along. Thanks!

These are awesome. I teach elementary, and my low level 6th grade class loved this game.

Thanks for the great game. How do you implement more "speaking" into the routine? I find the students basically only look for parts of the chorus they might already know. For me I've tried getting them to read out the lyrics (didn't work out well). So I tried reading the lyrics and for the higher level classes only get them to discuss in English with penalties for every Korean word spoken (worked much better). Lower level classes of course I just let them discuss in Korean.

Another question. Who are the two girl groups in the intro part?

Thanks!  My Kpop lessons have gotten a bit outdated and you've saved me a ton of work and aural diabetes sifting through the latest stuff!
