I can't seem to find many materials for this lesson. So here's another crossword and a Pass the Paper game. My co-teacher also requested a PPT with more foods and 'real' pictures.
I also plan on doing Genki English's conversation game. Using a stop watch, time the students doing 4 conversations. For ex:
"Hello."
"Hello."
"Do you want some more pizza?"
"Yes, please. Do you want some more ice cream?"
"No, thanks."
"Bye."
"Bye."
They repeat this with 3 other people. They sit down when finished. When all the students are seated, stop the clock. Then, do another round to try for a faster time.
Edit - The Genki English conversation game was ok. We put the times on the board and gave the fastest class a reward. The lower level students didn't care much about this game, so I won't be playing it again.
2011 Edit - Here's a card game that worked really well last year. Each student gets 4 cards of the same thing; a knife, fork, spoon, or chopsticks. The goal is to get one of each card. They walk around the class asking:
"Do you want/need a ~?"
The response is "Yes, please" if they need that card. or "No, thanks" if they already have that card.
As a last resort they can ask the teacher for a specific card, "I need a ~."
The only problem is it takes a lot of work to make the cards, at least for me. I made 35 of each, laminated them and cut them out.
