Afterschool circuit game
« on: April 22, 2011, 12:25:28 PM »
I stole this idea from a website (can't think of which one) . The studenst are in groups and have to answer the questions on the cards to form a circuit of 8 cards. The winning team is the first to finish with all the cards in circuits- lasts all lesson!

This looks fantastic! But two important questions: Where are you from and how many sisters do you have?

Edit: Oh wait, I get it- they go in the order they are in on the sheet. I am not smart. But this game is great!! Modified a number of the questions and it worked amazingly. I used it in my afterschool class, but am going to try to make a version to use in my regular classes too. Great work!

Haha yeah sorry, didn't explain it too well. Forgot to say that you need to cut out the cards first, and on the sheet they're in the right order. I also forgot to change the ones about me! If you make a set for your regular classes post it,would love to do one in my classes!  :)

I'm sorry I don't understand how to play this game. It looks really interesting. If you don't mind can you explain how to play this game. Thanks (^_^)

You need to split your class into groups of about 4, and for each class give them a set of the cards (you will need to cut out each numbered card first- so each group will have 40 cards) The groups then can start with any numbered card, answer the question and the answer they choose has a number next to the answer, example if they think the answer to card number 1 is Liverpool, they then have to find card 7 and answer the question on that card.
There are 5 circuits of 8, so for example the first circuit is 1-7-21-3-33-9-28-38 then back to 1.
Once the students get one circuit they tell me, I check it is right, if it is they can start to find the next circuit.

The answers on the sheet are all in order so when you cut them up make sure you mix them up before giving to the students.

Sorry if this makes no sense! Hope it helps

i understand! After i read it over a few times, it made sense. Very interesting. What level do you usually use this game for? when have you used it...for a time filler or random lesson? I have middle school grade 1, maybe i'l try it with them.

Thanks for posting :)

I played it with my afterschool class which is a mix of 2nd and 3rd grade middle school. They are generally the higher level students, but this kept them busy all lesson. Might have been the promise of sweets to the winning group!

Yeah some of the questions are mixed up or backwards, this is just because sometimes as a starter or at the end of my lessons I give them anagrams or similar wordgames to solve, so my students know what to do with them. You can change them, or just explain at the start the different kinds of questions.

Glad you like it!

question 31 is confusing me as there are 2 correct spellings and one wrong spelling. is it meant to be incorrect spelling instead?

Yeah I think it's question 8.
When I typed it up I spelt two wrong and one right. I think I did seperate for one of them because that's a common spelling mistake. Unfortunately the program I was using (un)helpfully corrected my spellings for me automatically and I didn't realise until the students nicely pointed it out to me!
So if you change it, make sure the computer doesn't change it back!

I think it was the Brian Boyd site- the one with the amazing Shrek stuff. He's got (a better version!) of the circuit game, I played his with my winter camp students, they loved it but found some of the questions a bit difficult so I made an easier version for my afterschool class.
Thanks for the feedback- nice to hear your students enjoyed it!

What an excellent game! I'm gonna use this next week with my middle school students - perfect activity for after exam classes! This can also be reworked for specific lessons, stories or movies.  Amazing!!!  Thanks so much for posting this.
