2010-2011 6th grade - Lesson 9 - How was your vacation?
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:02:59 PM »
A powerpoint you can use for a game.

Change the sentence (in various tenses) into the past tense.

There are some curveballs in this one, and many of my students found it difficult. For correct answers, I stuck to they way they were learning in their book (so "will go" becomes "went," not "did go").

We played it in consecutive classes and they did much better the second time around.

Here are a few different options that you can try out with your class.  The fill in the blank worksheet is definitely for more advanced classes.  Enjoy!~

I presume, pairs of students share a playing board.  They must ask each other the question 'How was your vacation?'  By answering, 'I play baseball.  It was great', they get to fill in one box and work their way towards 'connect-4'.

Your students will probably already know how to play. There is a Korean game called 오목 which is very similar, but you connect 5. My classroom has some omok stones so we play Connect 4 with those.

Yup but the one thing that might confuse them is that the connect 4 board is usually standing up. This means that you have to build up from the bottom rather than just placing them randomly.

I originally made this as a .pub, so the formatting might be a little funky. Enjoy!

Thought I'd toss up one of my activities for this lesson. For the PPT, break them into small groups, keep track of their points. You could do whatever you wanted with the score, but as you can see for my class in the last slide of the PPT, the more points a group got on the activity, the less test questions they had to answer.

What do the symbols mean for the Typhoon game?  They differ a bit from the Bomb Game. - the game is great, i just copied and pasted the bomb game rules and pics.  There are a few glitches in the letter buttons - they aren't attached to slides.  Thanks soooo much!!

Not sure if anyone else got glitches in the Typhoon game, but I fixed the ones I found.  Here is a new version with the Bomb Game rules and pictures.

Here's my bit for the lesson.  My kids loved the survey and maybe yours will too.  It's a basic word document.  You can spruce it up as you wish :)
