First day of new semester.
« on: February 16, 2016, 10:26:50 AM »
What do you guys usually do on your first day of a new semester.

What I mean is: If you have had everyone in the class before so you don't need to introduce yourself or know more about them, but you also want to have an easy first day of class ... what do you do?

Any special games or activities? I don't want to spoil them right off the bat!

Depending on the students, I usually do a review game regarding what we learned the previous year, or semester. This can include fun things about myself or events that happened at the school, too. With older students, I would have them write a letter to themselves, seal it, and then keep it until the end of the year when I give them back. That worked out well.

Good luck for the new year!

Exactly what sarbeck86 said. A letter to your future self is a great idea. There is a PPT and worksheet available on here that you could use. It is a little basic but you could modify it depending on your students' needs. Or combine it with a lesson on what a bucket list is. That way they can have both short and long term goals.

I like these idea! But I can't find a lesson for writing a letter to themselves. I tried to search it, but only found letters to Santa.   :undecided:

It is quite simple but it is effective. Hope it works for your students.

This 'winter vacation' comic project by Paul (not me) looks like a great idea.  I haven't tried it myself yet, but the idea is sound.

That would be a great idea for Elementary students! I think my G2 and 3 middle school kids would think it a little too childish. But my elementary kids might like it! Thank you so much for sharing!
