Re: Kid threw something at my car!

Kids throwing things at cars. I wonder where they get the idea that they can behave in reckless and illegal behaviour, while showing utter disregard for others' welfare and safety - and getting away with it without so much as a scolding? Could it be from observing Korean motorists themselves? Are we to praise the ajoshie who (in righteous indignation) gets out of his car to scold the young punk, only to proceed to run every red light on his way home, endangering pedestrians and other motorists alike, before parking his car on the crosswalk for the night? Are we really waiting for this scofflaw to teach the kid about social responsibility, common decency, and conscientious civic behaviour?

Really?

Exactly. It's like the adjosshie who has just emptied his nostrils onto the sidewalk, turning to lecture some kid for littering. The old Korean dude has had alifetime to learn not to behave like a stone-age peasant. Yet here he is lecturing a child who's only crime is to....watch his parents and grandparents and behave accordingly. :-[

Driving a nice car, invented by another civilization, does not make you civilized....if you run red lights, drive on the sidewalk, obstruct crosswalks, inflict pedestrians with your exhaust fumes (on the sidewalk), and engage in all sorts of antisocial behaviour with your vehicle. No wonder people want to throw things at vehicles. I've done it a few times myself (oh ship wons). When I'm on the crosswalk keep your ^%$&#@ death car away from my person. Otherwise, expect a reaction.

We need to know more about the circumstances surrounding the kid in the OP's post. OP, were you driving 'ajoshie style' while the kid was trying to cross the road? Why did he single you out from amongst a massive, unending horde of lawless Korean motorists? Were you taking the 'when in Rome' thing a measure too far? Sometimes throwing things at cars is justified, no more so than in Korea. As I've said, I've done it with small coins in the past; no apologies! Cars are not toys!! Millions of lives have been wiped out my wreckless drivers, and tens of millions maimed. OP, are you sure you were entirely free of guilt? Few Korean motorists are.

My greatest contempt is reserved for Westerners, having been raised in socieities where consideration for strangers is ingrained from infancy, who feel a certain 'liberty' or license to resort to nasty unethical, anti-social behaviour because "when in Korea."

If the OP took the bus this would never have happened.

You are indeed a strange one. I did look at it and this was joke. It is a typical line that lawyers use, 'if you weren't there it wouldn't have happened'.

I was driving to work, so I wasn't in any hurry.

I was going about 35kph on a 2-lane street at the time, the kid was walking off to the side, not on the road.

He didn't single me out, there were only 2 cars on the road at the time -- he threw something at another car first, which I saw, and then at my car, 5 seconds later.

I drive a freakin' Matiz, I'm not looking to collide with anything. I drive more by the book than the police.

I love it how the Matiz is basically the default English teacher car.

But I think due to the fact that the Matiz only has a 1 star crash rating, plus the build quality is so poor, I really think we can do better (Hell when a Chinese company copied the Matiz they managed a 2 star crash rating).

Realistically we can buy something like a Hyundai Avanti XD or an SM3 with duel airbags for about 2.5 million, so only about 500000 more than a Matiz..... and a lot less chance of death should an "accident" happen.

The problem is in the age of cars we generally can afford the Koreans where a good 10 years behind in safety.
