Zodiac or "Hey baby, what's your sign?"
« on: November 13, 2009, 01:47:24 PM »
Put students into groups based on their sign...2nd page of powerpoint.

Have them brainstorm their likes and dislikes to later compare to the ppt.

Give handout...last 2 pages of ppt I print out and double side then cut in half...so half page double sided handout...confusing?

Students will fill in the information about their sign.  I also printed off the ppt and gave each group the information for their sign.

Anything in green is hyperlinked to a video and there are also some embedded videos as well.

This will probably take 2 classes to complete.

If you make any improvements to it please let me know so I can make mine better too as this is my first time teaching it!

I did a topic like this last week.  I just reviewed yours.  The one thing I had my students do was find what type of job would be good for them, based off of there likes and dislikes or personality.

Good idea...I know of someone else who found a website that showed who you were most compatable with but unfortunately the link is dead :(

I found my lesson to be pretty high level for the 3rd grade students but interesting.  Did you post your lesson?

It's a great idea. Actually, to add to your idea, I decided to play matchmaker by using their signs to find a compatible celebrity. They will then have to write a matchmaker report. I'm gonna do this tomorrow :).

One note Sonya, I think your powerpoint was slightly crammed... I mean, it's informative, but it's info-overload. As a spectator, I usually like powerpoints to be summarized, so i pay more attention to the speaker and less time reading.

Totally agree on the crammed point!  I hope you'll post your modifications!

I edited the lesson. I added some explanation ones. I had the students ask each other about their zodiac signs. Hope it helps!

Note: Print out the Worksheet page in the PowerPoint as your worksheet. I have a double page, one for the student and one for the student's friends. If you want them to ask two or three students, print out two with Friends on it, and print it double-sided.

I haven't taught a lesson on the zodiac- but this sounds like it could be fun!

I'm thinking about doing a Zodiac sign based lesson and would go through each sign, saying the symbols and what they mean etc. But just wondering for the sign of Virgo. How do you describe The Virgin to students without being explicit! I teach Middle school all girls and they have a good level. I was thinking of either saying unmarried or innocent.
Can anyone whose taught this before let me know how they went about it?

Thanks!
