So I'm a new teacher, teaching reading lessons to Grades 5/6. For grade 6 I've been given the Escape North! The Story of Harriet Tubman book. Does anyone have any ideas how I can teach a reading lesson/games using this material? Games especially; I don't want to be insensitive. tHANKS!

Nothing funny about slavery, but um maybe you could do like an Underground Railroad trivia  activity, where the teams have to answer questions about the lesson in order to proceed to the next 'station'? Geez I'm a Black person, and even that sounds a bit insensitive haha. Well I guess not insensitive....  but I wouldn't want the students to  not understand the seriousness of it, you know?  Cuz slaves couldn't just say the right words and go ahead, it was a such a life or death situation.
Well that was just my idea. Because it seems pretty educational and not toooooooooo fun and carefree haha.
Well, just an idea off the top of my head. I'm sure others will come along with something better.. Or I will add something else if I think of it. Good luck!

That's great, thank you! I was worried that I would misrepresent it, but I boiled it down to the bare bones and am focusing the games around T/F quizzes about each chapter. Not very original, but still. Could I use your idea for a review? Is that ok?
